Moms Know Everything — Dads Know Something
An experimental poem with borrowed language from a five-year-old
Moms Know Everything, Dads Know Something
A poem with borrowed (found) language from a 5-year-old

Clicked and tampered with by the poet
Moms know everything, dads know something, 5-year-olds know how to dance hula — I know how to dance hula. I wish I can be a mermaid — then, I could dive deep into the water and the sea creatures would share their ocean- bed with me to sleep. I want to become a garden- singer, playing on my Flute-Guitar — You can play this both by blowing and strumming, like this. See?
So, you chose to become a father? Ants have a purpose, snails serve the world, and Hornbills help trees make children. Can you check on your phone and find what my purpose is? I know you are busy with “work” but please, can you tell me why I am here?
Inspired by Laynie Brown’s “Daily Sonnets” https://counterpathpress.org/daily-sonnets-by-laynie-browne (From my sampling of 5 sonnets from this work)
