My Favourite Song

I love Music. I love the feeling it can create. Music has the power to make you feel strong emotions. It has the ability to lift your spirits and make you feel things you have never felt before. A melody from a piano can soothe a soul, the beat of a drum hits hard and builds excitement, a guitar riff makes a song stand out, lyrics demand your attention, there’s meaning behind the words and they speak to you.

My favourite song ever is “You’ve Got The Touch” by Stan Bush. The first time I heard this song was in the first Transformers Movie. Now, before you get confused and say there’s no such tune in that film I am not talking about the Michael Bay one, I am referring to the original animated eighties classic. Transformers: The Movie.

In the movie Megatron and his Decpeticon’s have destroyed countless Autobots and have laid waste to Autobot City on Earth. Optimus Prime, the Autobot leader see this all unfold and makes a statement “Megatron must be stopped, no matter the cost” Even if it means his life Optimus will stop him. Optimus transforms into his truck and then the song plays. Optimus takes out Decpticon after Decepticon until he finds Megatron and the battle starts. We see them fight all while this song is still playing and it just fits so well with what is going on in the battle between Optimus and Megatron.

We hear this same song again at the end when Hotrod grabs the Matrix from Galvatron and becomes Rodimus Prime. Rodimus opens the matrix and the power of it destroys Unicron. This gives Rodimus and his friends only a matter of minutes to escape from Unicron.

I still have the VHS version of this movie. However the box was damaged and the tape inside the VHS was scratched. Those VCR’s were deathtraps and if you weren’t careful with ejecting you could end up with a ripped VHS cassette tape. I keep the box and the damaged tape because it is a part of my childhood. It means something special to me.

This song has the ability to lift your spirits. It can take you from a bad mood to a good mood in a matter of seconds. There is a power that resonates within. You feel invincible after listening to this. You feel like there is nothing you can’t do. The guitar riff is so addictive it makes you jump every time. The beat never stops, it is consistent and keeps you on your toes, lyrics create raw emotion. They speak to you. Listen to the words.

In fact you’re the best when it gets rough, and even when you are put to the test it’s not enough.

Right now it’s just repetition. However it’s driving the point home. This is the end of the song. The energy is still there and you can feel it.

When the song finishes you feel invincible.

I used to play this song a lot before an audition, or a performance. I haven’t done that in a while. I’ve forgotten the power of this song. Just finishing this post now I realise how much I really love this song and that I should play it at the start of every day. I’d probably feel a lot more confident and a lot stronger within myself.

I know to many others it’s just a song, to me it’s so much more. I hope i’ve opened your eyes, who knows i might of even inspired you to play it…. here’s a link:
