Why You Shouldn’t Treat ChatGPT as a Ghostwriter

When you let ChatGPT “write the article,” you give up the most valuable thing you have: your voice.

Search engines penalize repetitive, AI-heavy content. One writer on Vocal warned that leaning too hard on AI risks damaging your brand credibility.

Readers feel it too. The Guardian recently ran an opinion piece bluntly titled: “ChatGPT Has Its Uses, But I Still Hate It.” The author described how AI strips away the human quirks that make stories meaningful.

Sometimes, it’s flat-out dangerous. Verywell Health reported on someone who swapped table salt for sodium bromide after asking ChatGPT for advice, ending up in the hospital. If AI can mislead you in medicine, it can mislead you in messaging. And it's more like a scam because you have trusted something that is supposed to help you, but it hurts you instead.

The pattern is clear: ChatGPT is powerful, but it’s not meant to be your ghostwriter.

Use ChatGPT as a Collaborator, Not a Creator

Instead of asking “Write me an article,” try asking things like:

“Give me 10 headline variations.” “Suggest three structures for this story.” “Draft five punchy opening hooks.”

Writers like Sam Woolfe swear by this approach. He doesn’t let ChatGPT write the story for him — instead, he uses it for brainstorming, structure, and polishing. The writing itself still comes from his mind and experience.

This shift changes everything. ChatGPT becomes a thought partner, not a replacement.
