Abecedarian poetry is a structured form where the first letter of each line or stanza follows the alphabetical order, from A to Z. Originating as ancient, often sacred, alphabetical prayers (or abecedarius), these poems can range from simple, child-focused verses to complex, thematic, or narrative works.
Thank you to John Hansen PAL for the challenge to write such a poem.
For the last few days, after the death of Alex Pretti, I have struggled to write at all. I tried different poetry formats in his honour, but the results were poor.
But then I tried the Abecedarian format, and loved how my thoughts flowed so easily.
I hope it conveys the sadness I feel, not just about Alex’s passing, but also about the way our world is heading if we don’t heed the signs.
Alex Pretti, killed, not
Because he was a terrorist, but because he
Cared enough to help another human being in
Distress. Isn’t that what we do in times of need? We
Enable others to rise again, and at the same time, ameliorate their
Fear, to some extent.
Good people, people like Alex … heroes who instinctively know
How to behave, to stay around and wait in an emergency, just
In case their skills can be of further use.
Just think about that for a moment. The
Key to how medical people live their lives is respect, care, and love, always
Love. Love is the absolute foundation of all caring professions. Love can move
Mountains. Love can revive people who are hovering between life and death.
No caring medico walks away when positive
Outcomes are possible, or even
Probable. Of course the
Question Alex’s family is now asking is, was it worth it? Let’s
Really consider that. A young man is dead, a family mourns, and an ICU unit is now one man
Short.
Today, we all mourn for Alex and all the casualties of a system that should now be
Under the highest level of scrutiny, one that we hope will lead to
Volcanic eruptions
When the gavel drops and a decision is made after the facts are
X-rayed, and we have learned… from
Yesterday, and most importantly, when our
Zest for wild political bias is finally under wraps.
