An Afternoon at The Cafe

Do you think education should be confined to the four walls of a classroom?

Obviously, no.

Even with all the necessary education, without any experience or confidence, a student’s growth will remain incomplete. They might know the textbook concepts and answers, but navigating the world requires the necessary exposure.

Something that isn’t readily available to young minds.

Riya thoroughly believed that. She was contemplating all that as she scrolled through the latest updates, slowly sipping her morning coffee, as usual.

She once found an organisation, named Pehchaan The Street School, while surfing the internet one day, one that she greatly admired, for focusing on overall development rather than just academics. Since then, she started to follow all the contributions made to all the children who asked for assistance.

As she was catching up on the updates, she was interrupted by a loud call from her friend. And as they were talking, they planned for an outing with their other friends. Not sure about the places they planned to visit, but it would be different from their mundane work life.

After meeting up with her friends, they set out for an aimless walk around the area. And as they were walking, they finally saw a nice, comfy-looking cafe, which timed perfectly to grab some grub after their pleasant stroll.

As they got closer, they saw the name of the cafe on top, the Palette Cafe, deciding with a curious spirit to try out the new place. When they walked in, the cafe was much livelier than they expected, as a big, lively group, which consisted of 15 children and 5 guardians, had taken over a section of the cafe.

From her table, Riya could clearly hear the loud and childlike chatter of the children. Looking over, she got to see the animated conversations of the group as they chatted with their friends and the guardians they came with, fully engrossed in the topic, which was, honestly, very heartwarming to say the least. They were enjoying every bit of their moment, and topped with a classic canvas painting session, where they expressed their creativity. With time, as their energy dipped, they ordered food like burgers, fries, pizzas, drinks, and brownies to renew their energy, continuing their wholesome activity.

Smiling at the scene, Riya turned around to face her friends and started gossiping quietly. She couldn’t help but be jealous of the children for living their childhood in a carefree manner, while she was navigating the exhausting part of life as an adult. But, at the same time, happy for them for living their lives to the fullest.

Unfortunately, Riya and her friends had to end their beautiful outing because of work the next day. Feeling a bit reluctant to get up from such a cozy spot, Riya finally got up to leave. But not before stealing another glance at the lively chatter of the group.

Smiling softly, Riya swiftly left the venue with a skip in her step, feeling light-hearted and happy for the children, for they were treated kindly as they deserved.

“I should continue to do these outings sometimes. You never know what you might stumble upon after all,” said Riya as she caught up with her friends, who were already walking ahead.
