Install and Configure Codeium

The installation and configuration process for Codeium is straightforward and similar across popular IDEs such as Visual Studio Code, JetBrains IDEs like IntelliJ, PyCharm, WebStorm, and Visual Studio. Ensure that your IDE is installed and updated before delving into Codeium installation.

For Visual Studio Code —

• Use Extension Marketplace and search for Codeium. Click Install on the Codeium extension page. After installation, a prompt will appear to authorize Codeium.

For JetBrains IDEs (IntelliJ, PyCharm, WebStorm) —

• Navigate to File > Settings > Plugins. Search for Codeium in the Plugins Marketplace and Install. After restart, you should see Codeium options in your project or under the View menu.

For Visual Studio —

• Go to Manage Extensions under Extensions tab. Search for Windsurf in Marketplace. Click Download and relaunch Visual Studio. When prompted, sign in or create a Windsurf/Codeium account.

After installation, you’ll be prompted to sign in or authorize Codeium. A pop-up or notification will guide you to the Codeium website for authentication. If the automatic browser flow fails, use the manual authentication token method by selecting the option to provide an auth token, copy the URL provided, open it in your browser, and log in to get a token, and paste the token back into your IDE.If you don’t have a Codeium account, you’ll be prompted to create one during the sign-in process.

After successful sign-in, Codeium is ready to use. Begin coding in your IDE; Codeium will offer AI-powered code suggestions as you type. To accept a suggestion, press Tab. You can cycle through suggestions using keyboard shortcuts (e.g., Option + Right Bracket in JetBrains IDEs).

If you encounter installation issues, check your network connection or try changing plugin sources. For browser authentication problems, update your browser and restart the authorization flow. Ensure your IDE version is compatible with the latest Codeium plugin.
