Behind Every Stroke: Anisha Salsabila’s Journey as an Illustrator in the Age of AI

For some people, drawing is simply a pastime. For Anisha Salsabila, however, every stroke of a pencil and every splash of color tells a story of dedication, perseverance, and passion. Behind each illustration she creates is a journey that began long before she ever considered becoming a digital illustrator.
Anisha’s love for art started in kindergarten. Every Saturday, painting lessons became the highlight of her week. Those simple classroom activities sparked a fascination with drawing that would continue to grow throughout her life. Since childhood, she has always been attracted to anything related to creativity and the arts.
Her artistic journey took a new direction when she received her first smartphone in junior high school. It was then that she discovered the world of digital illustration. Curious and eager to improve, Anisha began teaching herself through constant practice, exploring different techniques and developing her own artistic style.
Like many artists, Anisha’s path was not without challenges. Learning human anatomy, body proportions, perspective, and the natural flow of fabric proved to be some of the most difficult aspects of illustration. Rather than giving up, she turned those obstacles into opportunities for growth by studying references from 2D artworks, 3D models, and real-life photographs.
Managing her time was another struggle. While she was still in school, balancing academic responsibilities with drawing often resulted in sleepless nights. She frequently stayed up late to finish her artwork, leaving her daily routine in disarray. Looking back, she considers those experiences valuable lessons in discipline and time management.
Throughout her journey, Anisha found inspiration in several renowned Japanese illustrators, including Mikapikazo, Ramdayo1122, and Ekureaa. Their works motivated her to continue learning and reminded her that artistic growth is a lifelong process.
Although she has created many illustrations, Anisha believes every artwork is meaningful in its own way. Each piece represents not only the final result but also the experience, knowledge, and creativity she gained while creating it.

Her dreams extend far beyond producing individual illustrations. Anisha hopes to publish her own webcomic, open a booth at Comic Frontier, establish a recognizable name in the illustration industry, and eventually open an art class where she can inspire and teach future artists.
As artificial intelligence continues to transform the creative industry, Anisha offers a thoughtful perspective. She believes AI can serve as a useful assistant when integrated into drawing software through supportive features. However, she draws a clear distinction between AI-assisted tools and prompt-based image generators.
According to Anisha, creating an illustration through text prompts alone lacks the creative journey that defines authentic artwork. To her, true creativity comes from the process itself, from the very first sketch to the final details, rather than simply producing an image within seconds.
She also expresses concern over the increasing use of AI-generated artwork by companies and organizations, believing that it may overshadow the talents of countless young artists who have spent years refining their skills.
Despite the rapid advancement of AI, Anisha remains hopeful about the future of human creativity. She acknowledges that AI may pose challenges to illustrators because it offers speed and convenience, but she believes it cannot replace the emotional value embedded in handmade art.
“Keep your spirit alive despite the rise of AI. A drawing created from a simple sketch, with genuine effort and dedication, will always carry greater meaning. It feels more beautiful and alive because it comes from the artist’s own hands," she said.
For Anisha Salsabila, illustration is more than creating beautiful images. It is a lifelong journey of learning, expressing emotions, and transforming imagination into something meaningful. As technology continues to evolve, she believes that human creativity, sincerity, and passion will always remain at the heart of every unforgettable work of art.
