โAll the reports are normal, but the sadness still hasnโt gone away.โ
โWe have tried everything, but this illness keeps getting worse.โ
Even though there can be many reasons behind this, if we look at it from a psychological point of viewโฆ
The reason why some peopleโs illness does not fully heal, even after a long time, is called the StressโBody Connection.
Stress does not live only in your mind โ it lives in your entire body.
What does stress do to the body?
When stress appears, the brain tries to protect itself by going into Fight or Flight mode. That means it sends a signal to the body asking: โShould I fight this situation, or should I run away from it?โ
To do this, hormones like cortisol and adrenaline are released in large amounts. These hormones are meant for short-term protection, but they temporarily stop the bodyโs normal functions.
๐ Important functions that get affected:
- Digestion โ Many people say they donโt feel hungry or find it hard to digest food.
- Hormonal balance
- Immune system โ Frequent fever, headaches, and repeated illnesses
- Sleep, mood, and memory
That is why some illnesses do not heal easily.
When stress stays for a long time, these paused body functions do not return to normal properly.
As a result, problems like:
- Stomach issues (IBS, gastritis)
- Headaches, migraine
- Skin problems (psoriasis, eczema, allergies)
- Arthritis and joint pain
- Skin inflammation like hidradenitis suppurativa
- Thyroid issues, PCOS, blood pressure, diabetes
The body wants to healโฆ But because the mind is not calm, it does not allow healing.
How does stress settle inside the body?
Our body has something called cell memory. When stress and fear last for a long time, the bodyโs cells themselves start โrememberingโ that stress. That is why we say the body stores emotional stress.
This is known as psychosomatic illness โ when mental stress turns into physical disease.
Even if stress is in the mind, its effects are seen in the body. We must always remember that the body and mind are connected as one inner system.
Is your illness taking too long to heal?
Donโt listen only to your body. Instead of giving importance only to medicines, take a moment to listen to what your mind is saying too.
