PMR MAN 1 Yogyakarta Joins PRAJA PMI Program to Foster Humanitarian Values

Yogyakarta, Indonesia — Members of the Red Cross Youth (PMR) Unit 28 at MAN 1 Yogyakarta took part in the PRAJA (Pelajar Relawan Jelajah Aksi) program on Thursday (April 16, 2026), held at the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Yogyakarta City headquarters. The activity involved Grade 10 and 11 students and aimed to enhance their knowledge and practical skills in humanitarian service.

The program began with opening remarks from PMI representatives and PMR advisors in the main hall. Participants then received an educational session on blood donation, covering its benefits, procedures, and its importance for both health and humanitarian purposes.

Students were later given the opportunity to observe the blood donation process firsthand on the first floor. They followed each stage closely — from registration and medical screening to the donation process itself, carried out on specialized chairs. Participants also witnessed the enthusiasm of voluntary donors and learned about the workflow involved in each step.

The visit continued to the recovery area, where donors rest after completing the procedure. There, they are provided with food and drinks as a form of appreciation for their contribution to humanitarian efforts.

In addition, participants were introduced to various emergency vehicles operated by PMI, along with their functions and uses, including the role of sirens in emergency situations. The activity concluded with a group photo session as a form of documentation and shared memory.

Head of MAN 1 Yogyakarta, Edi Triyanto, S.Ag., S.Pd., M.Pd., expressed appreciation for the initiative, emphasizing the value of real-world experiences in shaping students’ character.

“Activities like PRAJA are essential in instilling humanitarian values from an early stage. Students not only gain knowledge, but also real-life experience that fosters empathy, social awareness, and readiness to serve as volunteers in the community,” he said.

Through this program, PMR members are expected to gain meaningful experience, deepen their understanding, and strengthen their sense of humanitarian responsibility as young volunteers in society. (drc)
