How to unlock GarticBOT commands

So GarticBOT is already living happily in your Discord server, the channel is set up, and your friends are ready to play. Great. Then you start getting messages like “why can’t I use this command?” or “the slash commands don’t show up for me.” Alright, this post is for you!

First things first: GarticBOT splits its commands into two groups based on Discord permissions.

• Admins and members with the Kick Members permission can use every command.
• Regular members (everyone else) can only use the restart and help commands

But if you’re the server owner, you can unlock those commands for other members.

GarticBOT understands two different command styles, and the permissions for each system are configured in different places, which is where the confusion comes from.

PREFIX COMMANDS

For the prefix commands, GarticBOT relies on a specific role called GarticMod.

If a member has the GarticMod role, they can use the prefix commands. If they don’t, they can’t.

In case your server doesn’t have a GarticMod role yet, you can create one yourself: just go to Server Settings > Roles > Create Role, name it exactly GarticMod, and assign it to whoever you want to be able to run all prefix commands.

A small but important detail: the GarticMod role only controls the prefix commands. It does not unlock slash commands. If a member has GarticMod and tries /skip, it won’t work because that’s a different system entirely, and we’ll handle it next.

SLASH COMMANDS

The slash commands are managed by Discord itself, not by the bot. That means you don’t unlock them with a bot-specific role; you unlock them through Discord’s Integrations settings.

Here’s how:

1. Open Server Settings
2. Go to the Integrations section
3. Search for GarticBOT and click Manage
4. From here, you have two options:

• Add the roles you want to give access to all the slash commands at once, or

• Click into each command individually and set permissions per command

That’s it. Whichever roles you add here can use the slash commands you allowed them to use, regardless of whether they have GarticMod.

NOTE: This Integrations panel is only available on the desktop version of Discord.

“I want everyone to use the commands”

If you still want every member of your channel to be able to use both prefix and slash commands, you need to set up both.

1. Give them the GarticMod role (to unlock the gb. prefix commands)
2. Go to Server Settings > Integrations > GarticBOT > Manage and add the GarticMod role to the slash command permissions there
