Time Management During the Academic School Year

By Criszella Valentino

We can all agree that this school year might be the most challenging phase for us. We are all centered in front of our gadgets that will probably lead to unwanted migraines and blurry visions. We are also anxious to deal with our loads of schoolwork. So, what sort of time management should we do? And why is time management so important for us in the first place?

Here are some tips for you on how to manage your time:

  1. Make a master schedule. You can make your class schedule wallpaper using an application called Class Up. After that, you can list your daily activities and tasks as well as their deadlines in Google Calendar or Notion. These apps are so helpful in keeping things organized. However, you can also use a traditional journal if you prefer it that way.
  2. Avoid any distractions. For instance, starting up a new series on Netflix, downloading that new online game, or even checking your Twitter for any updates can be a great distraction; it will only lead you to procrastination. Save these in your self-care period.
  3. Divide and carry out your tasks right on time. Do not just sit tight and wait for the deadline before making a move. If you wait for all the activities to be given, it will leave you overwhelmed and end up lazing around. Quit stalling yourself. It will help you to be more productive and organized with your work.
  4. Set study goals. Take a glance at your modules and readings so you can easily plan your day out. I would suggest that you try the pomodoro study technique too. It will help you to be more focused and make the necessary actions to accomplish it. Set this as realistic and attainable as you can.
  5. Do not forget to take a break. I know you want to get things done right away but do not be so hard on yourself. No need to be guilty for a 15-minute nap that sometimes extends up to an hour or more. Treat yourself occasionally. It will help you not feel burnt out and exhausted.
  6. Manifest good energy for yourself. Do not pressure yourself. Relax by listening to music, watching movies, and meditating for a few minutes. Loosening up is not a waste of time, live for the moment, and manifest happiness and positivity.

It is important for everyone, not only us students, to have a good time management especially now that a lot of distractions are just one click away. In nursing school, we do a lot of comprehension and memorizations. It may sound so simple when said but it can actually take a huge toll on our time. We should begin dealing with our tasks right away! Let us get our priorities straight. Quit burning through your time in the things that are not significant; sort it out and be productive. I know we are slowly getting worn out this academic school year, but we need to fight for our dreams. We will all endure these trying times and one day be successful nurses. Let our mantra be, “striving student nurses now, registered nurses tomorrow.”
