How has it already been a year of Chronically Over It!?

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I posted my first piece, Coming to Terms With Being Disabled. Since then, I’ve written some of my favorite pieces like A Different Kind of Tired, been honored to be featured on The Othering Podcast, reached over 1,000 followers on our Instagram, and so much more.

When I first launched, I was just excited to get my writing out there for the first time in years. What I couldn’t have expected is the community we’ve built over the last year. I feel more seen than ever after connecting with people like me, and I’m also so grateful that people in my circle have been learning more about what I go through day to day. It’s been a hard year filled with frustration, dislocations, hives, and learning to ask for support when I need it.

In the process, I’ve also learned so much about the disability community, what we need, and where to go next. As we embark on Disability Pride Month, I’m making it my goal to make this page my priority. Throughout the summer, I want to post more, write more, and potentially also post shorter thoughts and snippets on Substack.

What’s next on the conveyor belt? Pieces about:

• One of the most accommodating weddings I’ve ever been to, and what I appreciated as a bridesmaid with a disability
• The things able-bodied folx don’t have to think about for big life events that we often do
• The history of epilepsy and the stigma that goes along with it, featuring some insight from my Mom and Grandma, who have had epilepsy for most of their lives
• What happens when you’re not a “palatable” type of mentally ill
