It was the last week of the semester. There was a mixed feeling in everyone in the classroom. Some students were extremely thrilled and excited about finishing their B.Ed. course, while others were anxious about what lay ahead for them in the store. Amid the chatter, Aanya lingered back, pretending to organise her notes. She appeared more confused at the completion of her B.Ed., which was not seen otherwise. It looked as if her heart was heavier than her backpack.

Just then, Ms. Shaila, our psychology prof., highly knowledgeable and respectable, had high regard for her students. She noticed Aanya sitting alone and gazing through the window, as if in search of something lost.

Ms. Shaila: “Still here, Aanya? Do you not want to leave this place?”

Aanya: “Just needed some time, ma’am. You won’t believe — this was the safest place in the world for me.”

Ms. Shaila: “Hmmm… Safe places are rare. But they don’t teach you how to fly. They won’t let you explore your potentialities; they will not let you know what you are capable of!”

Aanya looked at her, quite confused. It was like the professor was able to read her mind.

Aanya: “Ma’am, can I ask you something… It’s a bit personal.”

Ms. Shaila: “Sure. You can.”

Aanya: “Do you think success isn’t meant for everyone? I mean… I have ideas; I dream a lot, but I keep doubting myself. Nothing I do feels good enough. And sometimes I wonder… what if I will never be able to make it?”

Ms. Shaila: “Let me tell you a story.”

“It was a few years ago; I had a student named Meera. Brilliant girl. Her ideas for teaching were genius — she was creative, thoughtful, and full of love for children. But she spoke very little. She never shared her plans with others, kept her projects secret, and hardly participated in any competitions.

Aanya: “Why, why did she do that?”

Ms. Shaila: “It was one incident that had completely ruined her confidence. She was laughed at once during a presentation in school, during her teaching practice. From then on, she believed the world wouldn’t care. And maybe she was right — not everyone celebrates your success, Aanya. Many are too busy comparing or complaining. And not everyone mourns your losses either. The world moves on quickly.”

“I encouraged her. And one day, Meera took a risk. She presented a teaching module to a visiting education officer. Just one idea. And you know what happened?”

Aanya: “What?”

Ms. Shaila: “That idea turned into a program. That program reached schools in rural areas. And now, she is the head of an NGO that trains teachers in under-resourced villages. One idea, well executed, changed thousands of lives — including hers.”

Aanya: “That sounds unbelievable.”

Ms. Shaila: “It was no miracle. It was the execution. Thousands of ideas can live and die in notebooks, but one acted upon… that’s where the magic lies.”

Aanya stared out the window, letting the words settle.

Aanya: “Sometimes I just… overshare. I talk to friends, even on social media. But then I feel worse when they don’t care or use it against me.”

Ms. Shaila: “You know, Aanya… Not every thought is meant to be a post, and not every pain deserves an audience. Never overshare your problems. Not everyone cares. What you consider the most important thing in your life would be meaningless to someone else.

“Pain can be your greatest teacher if you let it shape you quietly. Let your actions speak before your stories. Let your work echo your worth.”

Aanya: “I feel scared, ma’am. I don’t know what’s in store for me. What’s awaiting me outside this premise! I feel like the world’s full of obstacles/problems/challenges.”

Ms. Shaila: “Of course, it is. But remember, “Losers see a problem in every solution, and winners see a solution in every problem.” And here’s the thing — you get to choose what inspires you more.”

“Don’t let your fears be bigger than your dreams. Remember — you are still the author of your article/story. You can always change/modify as you want.

And life… life is not a race. It’s a discovery. Discover yourself. And most importantly — be yourself.”

Aanya’s eyes glistened. It was the first time in months that someone had told her that she was enough.

Aanya: “Thank you, ma’am. I really needed this.”

She stood up and gently patted Aanya’s shoulder.

Ms. Shaila: “Then take your idea. Even if it’s just one. Work on it. Nurture it. Don’t rush. Don’t broadcast it. Let it grow in silence. When it’s ready, it will bloom — and the world will notice.”

As she walked away, Anaya was filled with joy inside. She felt as if a miracle just happened in her life. She experienced a driving/motivating force within that was unstoppable, unbeatable.

And that was the beginning of a new chapter, a new phase of her life and career. It wasn’t with loud applause but with quiet conviction and strong determination.
