Building Bridges, Not Walls

A poem on love, pain, and remembrance

A girl once dreamt of being in love, Wishing to wear it like a gentle glove.

But baring her heart wasn’t easy for her, Building walls around it felt a little safer.

Then came a man, silently paving his way, Breaking each carefully built wall along the way.

She tried her best to hold onto her heart, Terrified of it being torn apart.

Her fears came true when life pulled them apart, Leaving her to mend the pieces of her heart.

She beat herself up for being so naïve, Fooled by feelings, she’d let her logic die.

This time around, the walls went even higher — She firmly shut the doors on her heart’s desire.

Her rigid resolve left her heart unheard — But in the depths of silence, it finally remembered.

Remembered feeling spellbound— When the walls came down.

How free she felt, Like floating in the air. As if life’d brought her closer to herself.

In time, she made a shocking discovery, Pain wasn’t as cruel as it was necessary.

It softened her gaze, Humbled her ways.

It made her heart kinder. Served a gentle reminder, To embrace life in its fullness — The best way to shine brighter.

Now she heard her heart’s silent calls, Teaching her to build bridges instead of walls.

This time, she didn’t chase love, Nor did she run from pain. She just let her heart — Be alive and free again!
