My Italy
A poem about freedom, youth, and one perfect evening by the sea
My Italy
A poem about freedom, youth, and one perfect evening by the sea

The seagulls fade within the endless blue, The waves retell their ancient tales anew. The grains of sand lie sharp upon my lips, The ruthless sun burns through my fingertips.
But I can breathe, and breathing makes me glad, For in the air hangs every dream I had. My beautiful, my silent dream stays free, My carefree, fearless, restless liberty.
And it feels like this will never fade, That I’ll stay young and light and unafraid. I smile at distant sails upon the sea, And one young sailor weaves a wreath for me.
He picks forget-me-nots, a lover’s sign, And lays the little wreath in hands of mine.
And every evening, while the town’s at play, And people dance and sing beside the bay, The harbor glows beneath the twilight sky, As lanterns in the dark go flickering by.
And let it last for just one moment more, Let time stand still upon this quiet shore. Just for this moment, let the world not change, Let neither youth nor soul grow old nor strange. For just this moment, let my heart stay free, And let my youth remain a part of me.
