Memes that sneak up on us

“There are no coincidences. Most people come into our life to teach us something.” And some are just damn good entertainment!
I am finding, these days, that I am attracted more by the idea of things than by their actual reality. Everybody tells me how wonderful their coffee is — it’s become almost de rigueur if you’re writing a blog today, to joke about your caffeine addiction — so I love the idea of having coffee in the morning. But when I’m actually sitting there drinking it, my mind is on something else.
After six decades of imbibing it, the coffee itself is not really such a big whoop anymore — regardless of how much I may have paid for a fancy blend, or a state-of-the-art machine. I’ve just succumbed to advertising, that’s all.
Think about it. If coffee were such a big deal, you wouldn’t crave all the sugared flavorings added by the barista.
Cultural conformity. Probably induced via AI when the prices began going up, to keep us buying.
If I have the luxury to philosophize about such a First World problem, I’m obviously living a pretty comfortable life at the moment. So I count my blessings!
