My World Is Alive

The yard is alive in color…this dainty iris smiles at me as I walk my garden path. It asks very little, but gives me so much.

Its cousin sits close by, giving its showy display for all to see. How can anyone feel forlorn when casting their eyes upon this golden beauty?

This lavendar colored iris rounds out the iris grouping. Its royal color demands our attention as we pass by and admire.

This dainty flowering shrub, the azalea, is a long-time resident of my flower beds. With its petite, rosy- pink flowers that arrive in late April and into May, it is a sure bet to brighten anyone’s day!

May is the month when I look forward to my peonies bursting into bloom. Here, one is just getting ready to explode open, sending its sweet scent into the air.

The nine-bark shrub is an interesting specimen. Its leaves possess a red-purple tint, followed by white blossoms popping up all over the shrub…demanding your full attention!

Offering a background to the multicolours of blooms is one of my many ferns, which are planted in and among the flower beds. They are easy growers and come back in abundance every year.

Not to be outdone by the flora, the fauna is also present in the yard. Here, a hen turkey is checking out the sunflower seeds that have dropped to the ground from the birdfeeder hanging above. Sometimes, she brings a friend along to partake in the banquet table.

Lastly, here’s a photo of an unexpected guest…a skunk! It is a welcome guest in the yard because it feeds on ticks and grubs that are hiding in the grass. However, I definitely remember to keep a safe distance away and not startle him, or I might find myself in a “stinky” situation!

Hope you enjoyed taking a trip around my yard with me. Strolling about gives me a sense of peace and joy in a world that seems at odds with itself. I hope you can also enjoy a similar experience! Keep the faith!
