The Song I Always Knew

Art has this quiet power of bringing souls together, even when there’s distance and only screens between them. I found you in the wide, overwhelming world of the internet — a place where many feel lost, but somehow, it guided me straight to you. You didn’t show up like a firework lighting up everything at once. You came into my life not loudly, but gently. Not rushed, but steady. Hindi ako hinila. Hinawakan mo lang kamay ko, enough for me to know that I was safe, understood, and seen.

You came like a song I recognized without knowing why, like something already familiar to my heart. Meeting you felt like hearing a melody for the first time and instantly knowing it will become a favorite. It feels familiar yet new, like a melody that settles into places inside you that you didn’t even know were empty. It stays with you, echoing softly in your chest.

Some songs are not only listened to, they are felt. They find their place in your life and make everything seem a little more vivid, a little more alive. And like a song you truly love, you never grow tired of it. Even when you already know every lyric and have listened to it so many times, it still holds its magic. You keep noticing little details you didn’t catch before, maybe a lyric that hits differently or a subtle shift in the melody that you’re only now beginning to understand.

You’re like that. Someone I want to keep learning, piece by piece. And every time I think I already understand you, I find something new that makes me fall even more, a little deeper than before.

Loving you has never been about rushing or chasing. It was never about trying to be someone else to fit a picture of what love is supposed to look like. With you, love simply is. It’s effortless. It’s waking up and knowing I’m already enough, just as I am.

And your love is not only shown in the big, evident ways. It’s there in the softer moments too, in how you listen when my thoughts become tangled and heavy, in how your presence alone makes the world feel lighter. It’s in the way you look at me, like I’m someone worth choosing again and again. Like I’m someone worth waiting for. worth fighting for.

I used to think love was something I had to earn, something I had to be perfect for. Na kailangan ko munang ayusin lahat sa sarili ko, the flaws, the scars, the trembling parts, before I could deserve to be held by someone.

Pero dumating ka. Salamat dumating ka.

At hindi mo ako tinanong na maging perpekto. Hindi mo hinintay na matapos ko munang buuin ang sarili ko. You held me even in the parts that shook, even in the pieces that didn’t make sense. You didn’t ask me to shine before you stayed. You chose me as I was — soft, unsure, trying, breaking, growing.

And because of that, love started feeling less like a test and more like home.

With you, I learned that being loved isn’t about being flawless. It’s about being seen, entirely, and still being held close. It’s about being understood without having to explain every wound. It’s about resting in the kind of embrace that says “you don’t have to earn your place here.”

Thank you for choosing me, everyday, in every version of myself. Thank you for loving not just the light in me, but also the places that I tried to hide.

Happy 15th monthsary, my Ica.

I love you so much. : )
