Why Is Cheating Being Normalised In Bollywood?

Yesterday, I watched a movie. I’ll not take the name, but I’ll just tell the main story. And I am not spoiling anything because the makers themselves have spoiled the movie through the trailer. Those who have watched the movie will guess it too.

The movie starts with a couple who have a problem in their relationship. And the cause is that the husband wants a baby while the wife is career-oriented, so she wants to focus on her business. She gets a divorce from him, and the judge gives them six months to fix their relationship before they actually divorce. For the sake of avoiding any confusion, I am giving fake names to the characters. Let the husband’s name be Rohan, and the wife’s name be Riti.

Then the movie takes us to a flashback of how they fell in love. They basically met at Riti’s sister’s wedding. Rohan went there as a photographer. He gets attracted to Riti and flirts with her. They both get married. Now, Riti’s mother and father cut all the ties with her. In the movie, they called whatever they did love, but according to me, that was purely attraction. Because you can’t love a person whom you met in just a day.

Now Rohan goes to the UK for photography. We see another lead whose name we’ll say is Tanya. Tanya gets a dare from her friends to kiss Rohan. After doing the dare, she remembers that he is the same person who saved her when she was drowning. Now Rohan and Tanya have been attracted to each other. Another info was that Tanya’s brother is really dangerous, and he keeps a gun with him, so Rohan was really scared of him.

Rohan’s wife returns and tells him that she is pregnant. On the other side, Tanya also tells him that she is pregnant. He lied to both of them for the period of the pregnancy. His lie was caught when both of them were in the same elevator in the hospital. The girls leave Rohan.

In the end, Rohan meets his childhood friend and doesn’t tell her about his two kids and gets in a relationship with her. The End.

Instead of showing that Rohan was wrong, they made him a hero. A hero who cheats without any guilt. The makers justified everything the lead did. And it’s not the first movie that justifies cheating. There are many more.

What’s the worst part is, there were kids in the theatre too. What will go through their mind? They will think that cheating is normal when it is not. I feel that Bollywood is a hub of toxicity. It spreads toxicity by rebranding it as cool. They made normal people insecure by creating fake beauty standards.

It’s high time that Bollywood comes up with good stories that actually make sense and stop showing useless toxicity.

Thank you for reading my rants. My mind was revolving around the movie for the whole time. I had to get the rage out. Being a writer myself, I hate stories like these. That movie was supposed to be a comedy, but even the comedy felt forced. As a result, the movie turns out to be a mixture of vulgarity and toxicity.
