I Was Six Years Old When Basketball Changed My Life

Some of my earliest memories are on a basketball court.

I picked up a basketball when I was six years old, and I never imagined where it would take me.

As I grew older, I earned a spot on a traveling team in England. Weekend after weekend, we traveled across the country competing against other teams, creating memories that shaped who I was not just as an athlete, but as a person.

Later, I made my high school’s varsity basketball team. Basketball opened even more doors, allowing me to compete throughout Europe. As a teenager, I had the opportunity to play in Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Spain.

After high school, the game continued to give back. I played basketball for the U.S. Air Force, once again traveling throughout Europe and creating memories I’ll never forget.

Basketball gave me friendships, confidence, discipline, and opportunities I never expected.

But there’s one thing I wish we had.

My Parents Captured Everything… But It Was Never Organized

My parents did exactly what most sports parents do.

They brought a camcorder to games.

They took pictures after tournaments.

They saved medals.

Held onto newspaper clippings.

Kept team photos.

Stored awards in boxes.

Every piece represented a moment we never wanted to forget.

The problem wasn’t capturing the memories.

The problem was organizing them.

Some videos ended up on old tapes.

Some photos were printed.

Others stayed on different cameras.

Programs, awards, and certificates lived in drawers and storage boxes.

They don’t tell the story behind the athlete.
