Can Consistency Beat Quality in Online Writing?

As a new writer, when we start on Medium or Substack, we often obsess over quality.

We watch videos or read articles from successful authors, and edit our drafts for hours before publishing. It’s good for getting used to the platforms and avoiding mistakes that others made.

The problem is that quality is difficult to achieve at first…

Over time, consistency is what develops quality.

By publishing articles regularly, even if they’re beginners, writers discover what resonates with readers, receive feedback, and come up with new ideas.

We learn from every article, and over time, we subconsciously become better at structuring our thoughts and ideas.

Readers are not here just to learn something new or innovative. They are here to build a community and share their thoughts. They want to validate or to relate themselves in our story.

Consistency is also invisible marketing.

The more often we show up,

the more readers recognize our name;

the more the algorithm understands our topics;

the more our stories appear in feeds.

A single masterpiece from an unknown writer may go unnoticed. A hundred good articles create visibility, trust, and an audience.

So for most new writers, consistency comes first. Quality is the result of consistent writing and it doesn’t have to be a prerequisite for publishing.
