Assessing the Impact of PMKVY on Youth Employment and Skills

On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana was launched by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship on 15 July 2015. This scheme is very important in itself and is extremely necessary for the bright future of India.

Under this programme, around 20 lakh youth were provided training, which helped young people become market-ready and supported them in getting employment. It also helped in providing skills that created better employment opportunities for them.

**PMKVY** focuses on industry-relevant skills that are useful in real life. This scheme has different phases like PMKVY 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0. During 2015–16, more than 19.85 lakh candidates were trained, which helped many young people improve their skills and employment opportunities.

Increased Job Opportunities:

Many young people got jobs through Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana because the scheme provided them with many skills, training programmes, and certifications.

According to the data, 63% of trained and certified candidates joined PMKVY because they wanted employment. These skills helped them become market-ready.

Bridging the Skill Gap:

PMKVY bridged the gap that had existed for a long time between skills and jobs, especially between industry demand and skilled workers. Under **Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana**, training is provided according to industry requirements.

Which helps youth become job-ready to work in real jobs. According to the data, 16–35% of candidates joined PMKVY because they were interested in the course.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) helps people who already have skills but do not have certificates. Under PMKVY, such workers are given certificates for their skills.

Because of this, they get better job opportunities. According to data, 63% of trained and certified candidates believed certification helps in getting employment.

Women's Empowerment:

PMKVY helps in women’s empowerment by giving skill training and job opportunities to women. After training, women become confident and financially independent.

Many women join PMKVY to increase their income and get jobs. Skill development helps women support their families and also contribute to the country’s growth.

Strengthened India’s Skill Ecosystem:

PMKVY helps Indian youth learn useful skills for jobs and self-employment. It improves skill levels through industry-based training and supports small work like tailoring and mobile repair with Mudra loans.

The scheme reaches many students across India, especially in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, making young people more confident and employable.

How MESC Is Skilling Youth Under PMKVY?

The **Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC)** is a not-for-profit organisation working under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), with support from NSDC and FICCI. It provides industry-based skill training through schemes like PMKVY to make youth job-ready.

MESC develops National Occupational Standards (NOS) and Qualification Packs (QPs) and conducts training, assessment, and certification. It covers 12 key sectors of the Media and Entertainment industry, including Animation, VFX, Gaming, Film and Television, Journalism, Digital Media, Performing Arts, Sound and Audio Production, Photography, Broadcasting, Radio, and Live Events. Through this, MESC supports India’s growing creative economy.
