What PM Modi’s latest message really means and why it’s important to every Indian.

A few days ago, PM Modi made an unusual appeal:

• Don’t buy gold for a year
• Work from home where possible
• Avoid foreign travel
• Use less fuel
• Buy Indian products

At first, it sounded random. Even strange. But it’s not

It’s a signal that something bigger is happening under the surface of economy.

What’s really going on?

Behind this message is a global crisis.

• Oil prices are rising due to the ongoing West Asia conflict
• India imports ~85–90% of its oil
• Everything is paid in dollars

When oil becomes expensive -> India spends more dollars -> The rupee weakens -> everything gets costly.

Because they all connect to one thing: 👉 Stopping dollars from leaving India.

• Gold: India imported ~$72B worth last year — almost entirely paid in USD. It doesn’t create jobs or exports but drains foreign currency at scale.
• WFH: Less commuting → less fuel consumption → fewer oil imports → lower dollar outflow.
• Buy Indian: Every imported product sends money abroad. Every local purchase keeps money inside India.

Why this really matters?

This kind of message doesn’t come casually.

It usually means:

• The government is anticipating pressure ahead
• Harder policies could come later (taxes, restrictions, price hikes)
• Citizens are being asked to act before things escalate
