If you already have above-average knowledge of astronomy, physics, or life on our amazing planet, then this story may not be for you.

For everyone else, it is designed to provide a simple and enjoyable understanding of how the universe has evolved, from its birth to the present day.

Our journey is fictional, but it serves as a guide to appreciate just how vast and ancient the universe really is.

As we travel through space in our imaginary spacecraft, I will describe objects and phenomena that have evolved over billions of years, showing the incredible changes that have taken place across time.

At certain points on our journey, we will glance back at the Earth and the Sun and try to imagine what might be happening at home. Some of this will be based on scientific predictions, while some will be imaginative speculation.

One thing is certain: over millions or billions of years, the Earth, the Sun, and the universe will undergo remarkable transformations.

Anything with mass can never reach the speed of light. The energy required would be impossible to achieve, and a human lifespan would make a long journey through space unfeasible.

That is why our voyage to the farthest reaches of the universe exists purely in our imagination. I invite you to set aside the countless reasons why such a journey would be impossible and join me on this adventure.

To the best of my knowledge, the information shared here is factual. Even Mars, our nearest planetary neighbour, has not yet been visited by humans, which shows just how challenging it is to travel even relatively short distances in space.

It is unlikely that humanity will ever travel far beyond our local area in the cosmos. To reach the furthest observable corners of the universe, our fictional spacecraft, Celer, will need to travel at the speed of light, the maximum speed possible in the universe.

This speed is nearly 300,000 kilometres per second, 18 million kilometres per minute, and an astonishing 1,080 million kilometres per hour. Even then, it would take an almost unimaginable amount of time to reach the farthest objects we can see at this time.

At the start of our journey, kilometres will be used to measure distance, but as we travel deeper into space, these numbers will become meaningless.
