Understanding the Water Footprint of Travel & Tourism
The water footprint of travel and tourism refers to the amount of freshwater used by the industry to provide goods and services to travelers. This includes water used in hotels, restaurants, transportation, and recreational activities. According to the WTTC report, the travel and tourism industry accounted for 1.6% of the world’s total water consumption in 2019, equivalent to 1,237 billion cubic meters of water.
