Regaining momentum for the Wildcats

This season, Villanova has struggled against quality opponents. After losing four straight games at the end of November, the Wildcats won their next five games, but have lost five of their last six. A win against Georgetown two weeks ago was their lone win during that period. Following that, they lost three consecutive games to the then-No. All three losses came by fewer than 10 points to Xavier, DePaul, and Butler. As Justin Moore has been out with an Achilles injury all season and Jordan Longino recently suffered a left leg injury, first-year head coach Kyle Neptune has dealt with a depleted roster.

People who choose to stay away from this game based on each team’s current form should not be blamed, but Villanova ran away with it on Monday afternoon. In this matchup, the Wildcats are extremely efficient on offense, with the nation’s highest free-throw percentage. The Wildcats tend to do well against bad teams because those things don’t add up to upset material. As a result of losing 27 Big East regular season games in a row and failing to cover the spread for five straight games, Georgetown certainly fits into that category.
