Anora (2024) TRAILER REVIEW: Mikey Madison, Mark Eydelshteyn, Karren Karagulian, Yuriy Borisov

Before the trailer begins, you see Anora (Mikey Madison) and Vanya (Mark Eydelshteyn) kissing.

You see them partying at a pool.

You see them walking around Las Vegas at night as fireworks light up the sky.

The trailer begins with Vera (Ella Rubin) entering a room. “Yo,” she said, “YO! You pick up milk.”

It is daytime. You see Anora is still sleeping. She turned towards Vera. Anora is still wearing a sleep mask. In a dismissive sarcastic tone, she said, “Do you see milk on the fridge?”

“No,” Vera said.

“Then I ain’t pick up milk,” Anora said.

“Wonderful. Thank you,” Vera responded.

You see the train passing on their window. They live in a sh*thole.

You see a very sleepy Anora walking on the street with headphones on.

Inside a nightclub, Anora shook a man’s hand, “Hi, I’m Ani.”

Talking to another man, she said, “You don’t have cash? Let’s go to the ATM.”

Talking to another guy, “We could go chill out in a private room.”

BTW, as an entrepreneur, I appreciate her hustle. No sarcasm, Anora is doing marketing, branding, and sales all at the same time.

A fat guy approached Anora. He said, “I got a kid who wants someone who speaks Russian.”

It cuts to Anora at the bar already seated on Vanya’s lap. “My Russian is terrible,” Anora said. “I can’t even roll my R’s.”

“No. No,” Vanya said.

It cuts to Vanya welcoming Anora into his home. And dude, I tell you, Vanya is f*ckin’ rich. And not just rich, he’s like a Russian Oligarch rich, allegedly. He welcomed Ani to his mansion home. You see his garage with a dozen hot cars.

In Russian, Vanya asked, “Would you want to be exclusive with me?”

Anora smiled, “15, cash, upfront.”

Vanya made a funny sound with his tongue, and put his hand forward to shake her hand, “Deal.”

Money is nothing to this guy. Anora hesitated for a second, but she shook his hand, “Deal”

It cuts to Anora and Vanya having fun at a pool with friends.

It cuts to them in bed. “When I get married to an American,” Vanya said, “I wouldn’t have to go back to Russia.”

Being an immigrant is hard. Even Oligarchs need a Green Card.

“Okay,” Anora said, “so we should marry.”

It cuts to the lovers in Vegas running towards a drive-thru wedding. Inside, you see Anora and Vanya kissing. You hear the voice-over of a woman, “And do you, Anora, take this handsome gentleman.”

Walking along Vegas at night, Vanya shouted to random people, “My wife!”

Anora shouted, “We got married!”

This is just the timeless tale between an Oligarch and a h**ker falling in love. It’s a classic love story. Why do people say this is a great movie? Is there a twist?

It cuts to Toros (Karren Karagulian) wearing a religious garb. He was talking to someone on the phone. In Russian, he said, “I was with him two weeks ago. He isn’t married.” Who is Torros? Is that Vanya’s dad? Is he talking to Vanya’s mom on the phone?

Oh no. Here we go. Here comes the twist.

It cuts to Ani and Vanya in a living room. Ani is lying on Vanya’s shirtless chest as he plays a video game. Ani asked, “But you did tell them, right?”

You see Vanya’s iPhone buzzing and ringing, but he’s not answering.

It cuts to 2 men at Vanya’s door. The guy said in Russian, “Ivan, open the door please.”

Inside, Ani shouted, “Vanya, should I call 9–1–1?”

You see Vanya pushing the door close as the men try to get in.

The guy said in Russian, “Did you marry some prosttute?”*

Anora sneered, “What?”

The guy saw Ani, “Is that her?”

You see Vanya running towards the street.

Garnik (Vache Tovmasyan), one of Torros’ henchmen, shouted, “ Ivan. IVAAAAAN?”

Oh boy. What kind of sh*t did Anora get herself into.

It cuts to Vanya and Ani partying. Anora did a striptease dance for Vanya.

It cuts to them in bed. Ani asked, “Like what do you do to get all of this?”

That’s a good life lesson for everyone. When you meet a rich person, try to know where the money comes from.

It cuts to Vanya, Ani, and some friends having a champagne shower party on a private plane.

It cuts back in the house. Torros told Ani, “I’m telling you, you do not know this guy.” BTW, we found out here that Torros is not his dad. Maye Torros works for Vanya’s folks.

Also, what is up with Vanya? What is his big secret?

It cuts back to Torros and Anora in the house. Torros said, “It’s a fraud marriage. And were getting it annulled A-S-A-P.”

“A fraud marriage?,” Ani is livid. I don’t think it’s a fraud marriage. I think they had sex, fell in love, got excited, and got married in Vegas. How young is Vanya and Anora? Early 20s, maybe? You still remember how it is to be young and reckless, right?

You see Anora throw a glass or something at a painting on Vanya’s wall. The painting’s glass shatters and the frame crashes on the floor.

It cuts to an airport. “VANYA!,” Anora shouted, “Be a man and talk to me.”

It cuts to Vanya looking like he’s going crazy and losing it, “AAAAAAHHHHH!”

It cuts to Ani partying and dancing at a club.

It cuts to men breaking the glass at a store using steel baseball bats.

It cuts to Anora screaming.
