What Does Home Mean to You?

Home Isn’t a Place Anymore. It’s the People Waiting for Me.

Before marriage, home was my mother’s hug. Today, home is my husband and my son.

When someone asks me, “What does home mean to you?” my answer has changed over the years.

As a child, home was easy to define.

It was my parents’ house. It was my mother’s voice calling me for dinner.

It was the smell of food from the kitchen, my favorite corner of the house, and the comfort of knowing that no matter what happened outside, I could always come back home.

Back then, my mother was my home. No matter how old I grew, one hug from her could make everything feel okay.

But life has a beautiful way of changing our definition of home.

Marriage didn’t just change my surname or my address. It slowly changed my heart.

Today, when I think of home, I don’t think of walls or a city. I think of two people.

My husband. And my son.

My husband may come home tired after a long day, but the moment he steps inside, his world becomes us – his wife and the mother of his child. That feeling, of being someone’s safe place after a hard day, is something I never imagined would mean so much.

Then there is my son. His tiny hugs, his laughter, his little voice calling “Mama”…

He reminds me every day that home isn’t built with bricks. It’s built with love.

Sometimes people ask where I feel the safest.

It’s not a particular house. It’s wherever these two are. Because home isn’t always where you were born. Sometimes, home is where your heart chooses to stay. I’ll always love the house where I grew up. I’ll always carry my mother’s love with me.

But today, I’ve realized something beautiful. Home doesn’t replace home. It grows.

A mother’s love gave me my first home.

My husband and my son gave me another.

And somehow, my heart has room for both.

Because in the end…

Home is never just a place.

Home is the person who makes your heart feel at peace. And today…

My home is waiting for me with two beautiful smiles.
