Theme and What is it?
Final Nine is a card game based around the sport of Disc Golf.

What does it add?
This expansion adds two new courses with individual rules and effects. It also adds individual player abilities. Play a set of meeples that can be used to mark your progress on the board.
To use the player powers you’ll be given the character card for the color you’ll be playing. Each card comes with two unique sides, each with two abilities. At the beginning of the game you’ll take your card and decide which side you’ll use for the game. You can use your card once per nine holes and can only use each ability once.
For the courses, you set them up as with the course in the base game. Each course comes with its own rules. The Forest adds clusters of trees and slopes. If your disc lands on a cluster it is treated as bushes and reduces your distance by one on your throw leaving the trees. If it passes through, you’ll need to flip a card to see how it will travel through the space. This can result in the disc moving through as planned, stopping or shifting one space left or right before continuing on its path. If the disc lands on a slope it will slide one space in the direction of the marked arrows.
For the suburbs you get roofs and roads as new features. If the disc lands on a roof you’ll flip a card from the action deck and see which direction the disc slides off the roof. If it moves onto an additional roof space you’ll flip a new card and move as instructed. Keep doing this until it ends in a clear space. If the disc lands on a road space then it will move one space in the direction it was moving to show it has skipped.
Additionally, it adds a few new action cards as well as a few new discs, which include a new mid to long range driver type. A set of meeples are also added to replace your disc pieces to track your movement.

Do I want/need this?
If you like the game and are looking for more courses and challenges then this is a great expansion. I don’t think it changes the game in any significant way that you must have it.

Conclusions
This is a more type expansion. It just adds more of the game. The new discs and actions can be shuffled in and used immediately. The new courses are a nice addition to the game and give you more options when playing. If you like Final Nine this is a great option for you and I would think it a welcome addition to the game.
It doesn’t solve any of the problems I have with the base game, so if you were hoping this will improve or change the experience then I don’t think it will. This is a very grounded expansion and I have experienced some of what is here. The road skipping and rolling down slopes are both things I’ve experienced in real rounds I’ve played and brought back fond memories for me.
The long and short of it is if you love the game you’ll probably want to grab this.
If you want to find me on social media I’m on Threads and X, I share photos on Instagram.

Until next time, stay safe and be well.
