Ada was the daughter of Lord Byron, the famous poet, and Annabella Milbanke, a woman deeply interested in mathematics. Her parents separated soon after her birth, and her mother, wary of Byron’s emotional temperament, insisted Ada be taught science and math.

That unusual decision shaped history.

As a teenager, Ada studied mathematics with some of the leading minds of her era. But it was when she met Charles Babbage, the inventor of the Analytical Engine, that her imagination caught fire.

The Analytical Engine was a mechanical machine designed to perform complex calculations, a vision that would later inspire modern computers.

While translating an Italian paper about Babbage’s work, Ada didn’t stop at mere translation. She added her own notes, and those notes changed everything.

In her notes, Ada described how the Analytical Engine could follow a set of instructions to compute numbers, what we now call an algorithm.

She essentially wrote the first computer program, more than a century before computers existed.

Her method outlined how a machine could be told what to do, not by physical gears alone, but through logic and sequence.

But Ada’s insight went deeper than computation.
