Camiño a Fisterra

I had walked about 12 Km of the 31+ total for me to arrive at my destination. Walking against winds and rain, uphill; my raincoat had ripped and I was hungry.

There was an albergue, so I knocked and asked about the cost and if they had food. I did my calculations and wanted to save money so I walked further, to the municipal, but it looked abandoned. No one picked-up the phone or answered the door. So there I was walking back under the rain. There was nothing else near for my tired feet.

At that moment I accepted I would not walk for the rest of that day. I joked around with some pilgrims who sat outside for a break and I hoped they would stay. I was feeling like a failure… It was only my second day walking and I was tired already. This is what the Camino is about, accepting what is and taking it as it comes, not pushing it beyond limits. I know what happens when I don’t stop in time. Injuries.

The albergue was nice and basically empty. There was no hot water and it was cold.

Soon they came, a couple and the young woman asked me “¿tienes secadora?” (do you have a hairdryer?)

My insides were laughing out loud. Who who who would want to carry a hairdryer? Anyway.

Then there was nothing much more to do other than trying to keep the body warm and rest until dinner. So I laid down and at some point I turned and saw this…

Love

They were speaking softly, holding hands, very close, hardly moving, just loving each other. I was just gr8ful to witness this.
