Have you ever used a book tracker?

This is my third book tracker from the Brenda Novak Book Group, and each year I try to use more of its functionality.

I’ve used Goodreads for years and still utilize their reading goal challenge. Most years, I’ve entered 50 as my book goal, and I achieve that goal within five books. But, for some reason, a print book tracker almost makes me feel more accountable. It takes time, but in the end, I find I remember more of what I’ve read.

On a general note, I usually give every book I read five stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ unless I really don’t like itand even then, I rarely go less than a three-star review. I’ve also started to put down a book I don’t like. The term DNF (Did Not Finish) may appear from time to time for various reasons. I’ll enter the reasons in my personal book tracker, but will not review them online as such. For instance, if I DNF because of language, storyline, or too much graphic anything- that’s my opinion, and I won’t give a one-star ⭐️ review based on that. I probably just won’t review. I know there are readers for every genre and I also know how reviews affect future readers.

The Brenda Novak Book Group (BNBG) book tracker is a little different in that it’s an actual yearly planner, a monthly planner, a daily planner, a place to write down the books you’ve read, review pages, monthly quotes, a place for goals, notes, and more.

The photo above will become another story. Why? In my life, or so it has been for the last thirty-five years, these four goal headings have all been intertwined, which led me to sketch the ‘ball of confusion’ on the opposing page.

The BNBG is an online book group on Facebook, and is run by author Brenda Novak, her daughter, Alexa and is supported by her husband Ted and other family members. When I joined the group a few years ago-2017, maybe? Anyway, there were a little over 20K members. Now, there are over 40K members!! Even as large as the group is, it feels like a ‘family page’ where members, Brenda Novak or Alexa post things daily. There’s a subscription ‘book box,’ a book buddy program, some members exchange holiday and/or birthday cards/gifts, etc., and once a month, a group meeting where we meet the ‘author of the month’ where Brenda and the author share stories, have games and sometimes contests and prizes.
