The Role of NGO’s in Improving Education

NGO’s play several key roles in improving education. NGO’s often step in where the government infrastructure gets weak. Setting up schools, helping kids, and education units in rural or slums area.

If children in rural or slum areas are not gaining education in any form of way, that’s why NGO steps in. They would start teaching kids for free, provide books, and encourage their parents to send them to school. NGO’s also encourage people to help in the community work. Once the programme succeeds govt may adapt same approach in small towns or villages.

A good example of this is Unessa Foundation, based in Vadodara, Gujarat. It’s an NGO working for the education and well-being of the underprivileged children across India. They run a free weekend learning Programme every Sunday. Where volunteers come and teach kids, and also focus on life skills, communication and confidence. They started small, with just one community library and a few learning sessions.

They have also partnered with other organisations like Don Bosco Shenhayala to reach street children and provide them with digital tools and proper curriculum support. Many kids leave their education due to poverty and family issues. NGO’s run special classes to catch up on studies the kids have missed. Once they have covered up everything, they would enroll them back into the school.

Girls’ education is another area where NGO’s do very important work. In rural or slum areas, many people hesitate to send their girls to school because of the orthodox thinking or safety concerns. People’s mentality would lead them to think that girls are a burden to them. NGO’s would explain to parents why girls’ education is important. They would help girls stay in school who would otherwise have to marry or do labour.

NGO focuses a lot on training teachers. Many government schools in small towns or remote places don’t get accesse to modern teaching methods. NGO’s step in here to as they would train teachers on using activities, group learning or using simple digital tools instead of just using textbooks. This improves overall quality of education.

NGOs play an essential part in making education available to all children, particularly the underprivileged. With their help and community participation, teachers get trained, and various educational programs are introduced. They assist in addressing the deficiencies of the education system. Not only do they change individual lives, but they also help develop society as a whole.
