Storytelling Is Becoming a Modern Form of Visualization

I’ve been thinking about this from an analyst’s perspective.

When there is too much raw data, people cannot absorb it directly. That is why data analysts exist. We compress numbers into charts and dashboards, so the human brain can see the pattern instead of drowning in rows.

I think the same thing is now happening with documentation.

Today, the problem is not lack of information. The problem is too much information. There are too many internal docs, too many details, too many moving pieces. No one can realistically read and deeply absorb all of them in raw form.

So for text, I think storytelling is becoming a modern form of visualization.

And I do mean storytelling, not just summarizing.

A summary gives me a skeleton. A story gives me a shape I can actually remember. Even better, it gives me a person. Sometimes when I ask AI to help me understand a document, I do not want a generic “user.” I want a Tina. A Sophia. Someone I can picture. Then the logic becomes much easier to hold in my head. I can see what happened, why it happened, and how the document evolved.

That is different from reduction. It is not just cutting words down. It is turning text into something the mind can carry.

Over the past one or two months, I have been using this approach more and more. I do not try to grasp 100% of every document. Instead, I try to understand the story first, get the core logic, and then let the document go. If I need more detail later, I can always come back.

I still have deep respect for books and certain kinds of writing that should not be compressed too aggressively. But for the growing flood of internal documentation, storytelling may be one of the best learning tools we have.

For numbers, we visualize. For text, we storylize.

That may become one of the most practical ways to work in the AI era.
