Best marketing skills in these uncertain times

I think before AI the world was a better place, and (maybe that’s a strange take) marketing work was easier in the software industry. But I also think about myself as a guy who has really good skills in AI and I have a natural ability to learn new tools and quickly implement them in my work.

Maybe that’s because I was growing up with software, maybe it’s connected with my fleeting enthusiasm in learning new stuff. It’s not important.

What’s important I learned a lot of new stuff in last few years and now I’m using part of them in my daily work. I also decided to move some of this stuff to the trash can, or skip learning for later.

Below is some kind of summary of my 5 years experience as a digital marketing specialist in software industry. But first I think i should quickly introduce myself. I think it’s important to show my background before I’ll tell my toughts, but if you don’t think the same just skip the boring part to the next heading.

I worked mostly for two companies:

1. Small software house — Dogtronic is a producer of dedicated business online Software (React, TypeScript, data dashboards, CRMs, learning platforms etc.). Less than 20 people on the board, mostly programmers, so I was one-man marketing department. My job was to do everything that’s marketing related: email, social media, motion design, graphic design, no-code automations, sales materials, events, PPC, voice acting, video editing. I can list it all night, but what I mean is that there was a lot of things to do. I’m good in part of them, but as you can probably tell I was doing a lot of a mediocre job. And that was ok, we needed to do a lot of things but fast and cheap. But I’m not sure if it’s ok now in AI era.
2. SEO SaaS company — small company, big SaaS. Senuto is a SEO data platform like Ahrefs or Semrush. It’s really big in Poland, but there’s no abroad traffic. My job was (and still is) to promote micro software solutions and test them on international markets. The team is bigger than in Dogtronic (but not much bigger). Big change for me was small part of corporate style. We have small departments, and marketing team that counts a few people. Anyway, my role is more individual. The rest of the marketing team is doing Senuto promotion. I’m responsible for smaller software. So again I need to do everything what is needed, and theres much more AI in my daily work right now. I’m using Claude Code for web scraping, data analysis, website development and even in part of creative work. In general, most of data analysis software I used to use in my work is replaced by Claude, Make.com and Apify.

TLDR; I’m not a specialist in one field. I do wahtever is needed to sell the product. I’m well organized, I have ability to learn new software quickly and I’m good in creative stuff (2D motion design especially), but I’m mediocre in rest (PPC, events, email marketing, selling job).

I guess ‘T-shape’ is a nice name for this…

1. Do your job properly.

Do not read this — go to the next heading is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. 2. There’s no answare for best skills.

Same. Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

3. Everyone is better in diferent things.

Again. The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.

4. And every company need different skills and aproach.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English.

5. Bla bla bla

Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

6. Uh ah oh

There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don’t look even slightly believable.

7. Uffff

If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn’t anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem.

8. Ehhhh

Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making this the first true generator on the Internet. It uses a dictionary of over 200 Latin words, combined with a handful of model sentence structures, to generate Lorem Ipsum which looks reasonable. The generated Lorem Ipsum is therefore always free from repetition, injected humour, or non-characteristic words etc.
