WRITING PROMPT RESPONSE
Polaroid colours

The photo slips down with a ripping noise as I take Revolutionary Road from the shelf.
I pick it up to find a white scratch between our smiles. In the bottom right corner, his writing tells me three years have passed since that night.
It was a lousy bar. My heels were stuck on the floor, and his beer was warm straight from the tap: we must have been very drunk or very in love to find it romantic.
The photobooth stood beside the counter. Memories in Polaroid colours were the best, weren’t they? We took two. Now I wonder if the one where we kissed still hangs above his desk, or if his friends are the only ones left.
My eyes sting.
I put the photo back in the book. It is over, but I am not ready to let it go just yet.
Thank you for reading! This flash fiction is a response to the July Photo Flash Fiction Prompt:
