The last time a president overrode a state’s National Guard deployment order was on March 7, 1965, on the eve of the momentous civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery, AL. Tensions between protesters and law enforcement officers had been rising across the South. The president was at odds over voting rights with a governor he considered a recalcitrant political adversary.

So to protect demonstrators against violence, President Lyndon B. Johnson did something presidents rarely do: He invoked his legal authority to activate and deploy the National Guard without the cooperation of the state’s governor — in this case, Gov. George Wallace of Alabama, one of the nation’s most prominent segregationists.

Those of us who paid attention in history class know how that turned out.

Before Saturday, that was the last time a president used his limited executive authority to bypass a state governor and dispatch that state’s National Guard himself to deal with civil unrest. In nearly all cases when the National Guard is activated, it happens at the request of the state governor, who commands the troops, and presidents do not interfere.

Our current “president”, however, doesn’t recognize any such limitations. He is convinced that he is the American king and can do whatever the fuck he wants — especially if it hurts California, who overwhelmingly voted against him in the last election (and the two elections before that).

I, like many of you, am furious. I’m even more angry at my own elected officials, who, for reasons only they know, have not started impeachment proceedings against this tyrannical maniac. Families are being shattered, and American citizens and protected immigrants are being deported without due process. Children as young as 4 years old have been torn from their parents and sent to detention centers alone and afraid, with no one to speak for them.

This is not the America my forefathers fought to save. These are the actions of a child-man who thrives on chaos and only seeks to boost his own sense of importance.

My own friends, some of which are previous Marine Corps officers, have not spoken out. The most important oath of a Marine is to “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.” The actions of the past four days are against everything the Constitution stands for. I’m ashamed of them. Where are their voices?

I am an American citizen. I am the daughter of a veteran and I am ashamed of my country. The past 50 years have been spent dismantling the education system so that our country is filled with idiots who possess no basic critical thinking skills. They listen to the lies of the orange sh**-gibbon and FOX News.

If one person in America is not safe, none of us are. We are all in danger. We have to fight.
