Lessons from building a post-meeting engagement capability in Showroom Experience
The Problem: Great Sales Conversations Were Ending Too Soon
In wholesale commerce, the buying process rarely ends when a sales meeting ends.
As part of the wholesale technology ecosystem, we had built a Digital Showroom where Sales Representatives could curate collections, present products, and guide buyers through seasonal assortments. The platform worked well during meetings, but we identified a recurring challenge:
After the meeting concluded, buyers often had to revisit hundreds of products, coordinate internally with merchandising teams, and make purchasing decisions days or weeks later.
The carefully curated product stories created during the meeting were effectively lost.
This created several problems:
- Buyers struggled to recall key recommendations.
- Internal buying teams who did not attend the meeting lacked context.
- Sales Representatives had no structured way to extend the conversation beyond the meeting.
- Product discovery dropped significantly after the session ended.
- Potential orders were delayed or abandoned.
Through discussions with Sales Representatives and wholesale buyers, one insight became clear:
Buyers wanted an easy way to revisit the curated assortment exactly as it was presented during the meeting.
The Opportunity
The wholesale ecosystem already consisted of two platforms:
Digital Showroom
Used by Sales Representatives to present products and create curated collections.
Click
The customer-facing B2B e-commerce platform where buyers placed orders.
The opportunity was straightforward:
What if Sales Representatives could share their curated moodboards from Digital Showroom directly into Click?
This would allow buyers to:
- Access the moodboard after the meeting.
- Explore products in context.
- Save products to wishlists.
- Add products directly to cart.
- Continue their buying journey asynchronously.
Rather than forcing buyers to recreate the discovery process, we could preserve the exact story the Sales Rep had crafted.
Defining the Solution
We designed a capability that enabled Sales Representatives to publish moodboards from Digital Showroom directly into Click.
Sales Rep Workflow
- Create a moodboard during or after the meeting.
- Select the customer account.
- Push the moodboard to Click, to a single customer or to a maximum of 1500 customers in one click.
- Notify the buyer.
Buyer Workflow
Once the moodboard appeared in Click, buyers could:
- Browse the visual collection.
- View individual products.
- Access pricing and assortment details.
- Add products to wishlist.
- Add products directly to cart.
- See any updates real time like a new product suggested by Rep or any price update
The experience effectively transformed a one-time sales presentation into a persistent digital selling asset.
Product Strategy Behind the Feature
While the feature appeared simple on the surface, it was designed around three strategic principles.
1. Extend the Selling Window
Traditionally, engagement ended when the meeting ended.
By making moodboards available in Click, engagement could continue for days or weeks afterward.
2. Reduce Decision Friction
Buying decisions in wholesale organizations often involve multiple stakeholders.
Moodboards provided a visual artifact that buyers could circulate internally, reducing the need for repeated explanations.
3. Drive Discovery-Led Commerce
Rather than landing on a product listing page, buyers entered through a curated story.
This increased exposure to complementary products and collections.
Measuring Success
We defined success across three dimensions:
Adoption
Would Sales Representatives actually use the capability?
Engagement
Would buyers interact with the moodboards?
Commercial Impact
Would the feature influence sales outcomes?
First-Year Results
Adoption
- Total Sales Representatives: 1,500
- First-year adoption rate: 30%
- Active Sales Representatives: 450
This was a healthy adoption curve for a new workflow introduced into an established sales process.
Commercial Impact
Across the first year, the feature generated:
€1M in incremental net sales
Given the wholesale business generated approximately:
€1.6B annual net sales
the feature contributed:
{€1M}{€1.6B} = 0.0625%
At first glance, this percentage may appear small.
However, the key consideration is that this uplift came from:
- No additional sales headcount
- No increase in marketing spend
- No changes to assortment
- No pricing adjustments
The gain was created purely through improved digital merchandising and post-meeting engagement.
Breaking Down the Impact
With 450 Sales Representatives actively using the feature:
Incremental Sales per Active Sales Rep
€1,000,000 \div 450
≈ €2,222 per Sales Rep annually
Incremental Sales per Customer Served
Assuming the 450 active Sales Representatives served customers proportionally:
- Customers influenced ≈ 6,000
€1,000,000 \div 6,000 ≈ €167 incremental revenue per customer
While individually modest, these gains accumulated significantly across a large wholesale customer base.
Why the Feature Worked
The success did not come from introducing a new commerce capability.
Wishlists already existed.
Carts already existed.
Product pages already existed.
The innovation came from connecting these capabilities through a workflow that matched how buyers actually make decisions.
The moodboard acted as:
- A visual reminder
- A collaboration tool
- A product discovery mechanism
- A conversion funnel
Most importantly, it bridged the gap between sales conversations and commerce transactions.
Key Product Management Lessons
1. Small Workflow Improvements Can Create Large Revenue Impact
Many teams focus on launching entirely new products.
In this case, connecting two existing platforms generated measurable commercial value.
2. Design Around User Behavior, Not Features
Buyers were already sharing screenshots, notes, and PDFs internally.
The moodboard feature formalized a behavior that was already happening.
3. Context Drives Conversion
Products presented within a curated narrative perform better than products shown in isolation.
The moodboard preserved that context.
4. Revenue Often Hides in Post-Purchase Journeys
Product teams frequently optimize discovery and checkout.
The opportunity here existed in the period between a sales meeting and a purchase decision.
Looking Ahead
The feature opened several opportunities for future innovation:
- AI-generated moodboards
- Personalized product recommendations within moodboards
- Buyer engagement analytics
- Collaborative commenting between buyers and Sales Representatives
- Automated follow-up workflows
- Moodboard performance attribution
Each of these could further strengthen the connection between storytelling and commerce.
Final Thoughts
One of the most valuable lessons from this initiative was that impactful product innovation does not always require reinventing the customer journey.
Sometimes, the biggest gains come from eliminating a small point of friction.
By enabling Sales Representatives to share curated moodboards from Digital Showroom into Click, we extended product discovery beyond the meeting room, empowered buyers to collaborate more effectively, and generated approximately €1M in incremental net sales in the first year, with only 30% Sales Representative adoption.
The result was a stronger connection between digital merchandising and commercial outcomes — a reminder that great product experiences can create value for users and the business at the same time.
