A Son is Given

Date: 7th December, 2025.

Preacher: Pastor Akin Kunlipe

Isaiah 9:6: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given.”

In this single sentence, we behold the full sweep of God’s love, witnessing the divine humility that stripped the King of Glory to bring Him down to us, and the divine heritage that clothes us in His authority and lifts us up to Him!

1. A Child is Born:

Here is the story of God meeting us exactly where we are. He didn’t just visit, He moved in. He was born with a body, not just so He could live, but so that He could fully suffer; to be tested, to hunger, to feel sadness and joy.

Therefore, Jesus is not a distant, untouchable judge, but a merciful and faithful High Priest who has walked our path (Hebrews 2:17–18). He took on flesh so that He could shed blood, the only payment sufficient to cover our sins, fulfilling His destiny as the sacrificial Lamb of God. Since He lowered Himself to become one of us, He is now perfectly qualified to raise us up!

2. A Son is Given:

The Son, who is the heir of all things (Hebrews 1:1–2), was freely handed over so that we could be adopted into God’s family! We are no longer slaves or servants, we are elevated to the status of sons — joint heirs with Christ (Galatians 4:3–7).

This divine identity means the family name and heritage are now irrefutably yours! When you carry the name of the Heavenly Father, you are authorized to operate with the full power of the Son. The authority you walk in is defined by the titles given to Him in the Scriptures, allowing you to claim His character and promises:

Wonderful (Exodus 15:11, Isaiah 8:18): He is the God who is always at work doing magnificent things. As joint heirs, you are destined for signs and wonders in the world.

Counselor (Psalm 16:7, Colossians 2:3): He strategically guides His children. All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are available to you for every step of your journey.

Mighty God (Romans 8:37): He is the conqueror who is never defeated. Through Him, you are more than conquerors in all circumstances, with no battle too big for the name you carry.

Everlasting Father (Isaiah 9:6): His Fatherhood is eternal. His love is not conditional, and His resources will never run out.

Prince of Peace (Philippians 4:6–7): The war is over. He provided the ultimate atonement so you could have peace with God (intimacy) and experience the peace of God (the guarding of our hearts and minds).

May we never lose sight of the magnitude of this gift. This complete, all-sufficient provision of God in Christ must remain the central light of our lives, compelling us to walk daily in the reality of our divine sonship.
