Uno Platform Collaboration: Android, WASM and SkiaSharp
The clearest signal was October 2025’s announcement of a deep collaboration between Uno Platform and Microsoft’s .NET team. Uno has built its framework on top of .NET since day one, so they’re now “giving back” contributions in key areas. Uno excels at complex workflows (dashboards, data entry, forms) where unified styling and performance matter; MAUI shines for straightforward mobile/UWP scenarios. The result is truly enterprise cross-platform: one C#/XAML codebase can drive a browser (WASM), Windows/Mac/Linux desktop and mobile apps, making old WinForms or WPF projects portable to a modern multi-platform model.
Conclusion: A Dual Strategy for the Future
This isn’t a sudden “abandon Windows” pivot for Microsoft. WinUI and .NET 10 desktop remain high performance and fully supported. But .NET has quietly become a multi-platform toolkit. By investing in Uno Platform and WebAssembly, Microsoft is hedging against a cloud-first, browser-centric world. Enterprises that traditionally relied on Windows desktop now have a Microsoft-backed path to build browser and mobile apps with their existing C# skills.
In short, .NET’s era of “write once, run on everything” is arriving. Rather than rewriting business logic in separate stacks, teams can share it across web, desktop and mobile. The focus for developers is shifting from “writing platform-specific UI code” to “defining the product and guiding the AI & frameworks to build it.” But as always with new tech, human insight still matters: quality cross-platform apps will require skilled architects to manage platform quirks and ensure robust performance.
