The Destination

Life isn’t only about the one long journey to the end with no stops. That long journey is put together from all the smaller journeys and some of those have destinations that are so very important.

Destinations where healing is good enough, where we choose to risk ourselves to protect those who are treated as less than, where We The People take responsibility for our more perfect union to again form a more perfect union.

What I’m seeing right now is a journey that is crucial but a destination that NEEDS to be reached.

This Road may be terrifying. The Destination could be peace.

This Road may be full of potholes to trip on, washed out bridges requiring more dangerous treks, and long stretches stained in the blood of those murdered by mobs or troops with the support of local and federal government officials. The Destination could be a place where we are people and taking care of one of us takes care of all of us.

This Road may be one of the most difficult of your life. The Destination could be the safe place you reflect from.

This Road may not wind through the slums, poisoned cities, and bombed out countries but it must pass through them. The Destination could provide the means to remake these places NOT so “better” people could live there but so that those who do already live there can have homes their children don’t have to leave to find a better life.

This Road may have fear and violence and beautiful moments and amazing people. The Destination could have rest and beauty and amazing people in abundance.

The Destination is a place from which we can journey and to which we could also come home.

I hope I see you there
