A Series of Essays on Kafka’s The Metamorphosis | The Necessity of Criticism

Farzam Karimi, translator and journalist, announced in an interview with Honar Online: The book Madness, Metaphor, and Evil in The Metamorphosis is the first work to offer a comprehensive critical analysis centered solely on Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis. Until now, only a handful of authored works have been published on this subject, but in my view, this is the first translated volume of its kind—edited by Harold Bloom, one of the most distinguished literary critics of the twentieth century in the United States.

Bloom was widely known for his classical approach to literature and remained firmly opposed to the proponents of New Criticism and those who challenged the authority of classical critique.

Karimi added that Bloom exercised a masterful editorial hand in compiling the book: "In Iran, this role is often referred to simply as ‘editing,’ while in the West it is known as ‘series editing’ or ‘general editing.’ In such projects, Bloom not only performed expert editorial work but also curated and reviewed a wide array of critical essays related to the subject. Through his keen discernment, he succeeded in assembling a comprehensive and insightful collection focused entirely on The Metamorphosis."
