MultiChoice Reintroduces Concurrent Streaming for DStv Streaming-Only Customers at Affordable Rates:

MultiChoice has taken a customer-friendly step by reintroducing the option for DStv streaming-only subscribers to enjoy concurrent streaming on two devices simultaneously. This move comes at a fraction of the cost compared to a full standalone subscription.

The decision to implement this change follows the recent announcement by the broadcaster about renaming its streaming platform to DStv Stream, accompanied by several new features. However, the initial announcement did not include any mention of the highly requested extra stream feature.

Initially, MultiChoice limited concurrent streams to one device starting in March 2022, affecting both DStv streaming-only customers and those with satellite packages. This move somewhat diminished the value proposition of the streaming-only packages.

The newly-launched “Extra Mobile Stream” feature now allows customers to stream on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop in addition to their primary stream, which can be accessed on any Internet-connected device.

The Extra Mobile Stream feature is automatically enabled for customers subscribed to the Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, and Access packages. However, customers have the option to remove the additional stream if they prefer to continue paying the current prices.

The cost of the Extra Mobile Stream varies depending on the type of package selected. For example, on the top-end DStv Stream Premium plan, it adds R100 to the subscription cost, increasing it from R699 to R799 per month – an increment of 14.3% for the ability to stream on two devices concurrently.

On the Compact Plus package, the Extra Mobile Stream is priced at R110, resulting in a revised cost of R579 instead of R469 for the 1-stream package. This pricing discrepancy is noteworthy since Compact Plus offers less content compared to the Premium package.

For Compact, Family, and Access packages, the prices of the Extra Mobile Stream are R80, R50, and R30, respectively.
