The Freedom of the Multipotentialite
How clarity lets you do more

If yesterday’s issue did its job, you now know that you have everything you need to start doing. That the gap between where you are and where you want to be isn’t filled with more information but crossed with action.
If you’re anything like me this might be what happened after you read that. You nodded, you felt it, and maybe you even shared it, however, when you looked out at everything you could possibly do, everything you’ve learned, every area of your life waiting to be changed, it all blurred into one overwhelming, indistinguishable mass of where do I even begin.
What you don’t want to do is stay stuck in another kind of paralysis, this time not from an inferiority complex but from in fact being incredibly capable.
In the words of Marianne Williamson,
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”
But permission to shine is one thing, knowing which light to lead with is another.
The most informed and intentional people are often endowed with multiple abilities that may or may not find direct links to one another. Rather than having one "true calling" or specializing in a single field, they explore multiple passions over their lifetime, often drawing from their adaptability and rapid learning skills. The most daunting thing to do would be to choose which one to pursue, which one to show up with, which one to be known for.
What cuts through all of that complexity is clarity.
Clarity answers the question, 'what should I do now?' It requires you to rank what you’re capable of in order of what matters most at every moment.
In my case, I write, make music, and dabble into a few other things. For a long time the question of which one to pursue kept me from fully showing up with any. What clarity gave me wasn’t permission to choose one and abandon the other — it showed me that each have their season. There are times when words are what I have to offer, and times when it’s sound. The goal was never to pick one. It was to know which one the moment was calling for.
For you, it could be multiple creative pursuits or an array of career choices. None need to suffer permanently, you just have to give precedence to one for a time depending on its importance or urgency.
If you take only one thing out of this let it be that clarity isn’t about narrowing your life down to one thing forever, clarity is knowing what to lead with at any given time.
If you found this helpful make sure to leave a clap or 50. Tomorrow we go one level deeper so make sure to follow so you don’t miss it.
