Friendship

Have you ever heard that friendships come and go and there are seasons for friendships? I have heard that my whole life. I didnt believe that my longest friendship that I cherished the most would have an end. I met my best friend in high school,my sohpmore year, and we were 16 years old. We would hang out at school together, hang out on the weekends and basically do everything together. We went to all the dances and would go to sporting events together and I would drive her around everywhere. We graduated and celebrated our birthdays always together. We loved to go out dancing and listen to live music and go to concerts. I went to college and she worked full time and then entered college a fews years later. She would come up to visit me in Chico and we would have some crazy adventures. Her sang was “What happens in Chico stays in Chico!” Then we would laugh. We shared in the highs and lows through being young adults. She was my maid of honor in my first wedding, attended both of my baby showers, a shoulder to cry on when I went through divorce and a listening ear when I was brave enough to share what was really going on in my marriage and why it ended. She was a loyal and fun friend. She was always up for an adventure and was my hiking and paddle boarding friend. She was my friend for 23 years. Now she wants space from me and doesnt want to connect and hang out. She says, “she’s emotionally exhausted from our friendship.” How does that even happen? It happens slowly and overtime the friendship isn’t growing together anymore and its growing a part. It’s hard to hear that my best friend of 23 years wants space from me and doesn’t want to hang out with me. It’s very sad and hurtful. I told my best friend I’m here when she’s ready to connect and I will respect that she wants space. That’s all I can do. I plan to focus on my other friendships and invest in friends who love me and want to hang out with me. At 39 years old, I have learned a hard lesson that friendships come and go….
