I’M BAAAACK!

Happy New Yearrrr!
Hope y’all have been good so far?
I’ve been away for quite a while. I might feel a bit guilty about this if I didn’t have good reason.
So, up until December last year, I was away at law school for 8 months, and the best way to describe my experience is to say that IT WAS A LOT.

Especially in so short a period of time. Yes, 8 months in law school was super short, simply because time flew by so fast. Even as I write this, it still feels a bit unreal that I was in law school for a whole 8 months, and that bar finals is now behind me. Just like that!
Every moment from Day 1 of 2025 led up to that exam and now it’s finally over and done with, I am unburdened and so very grateful. Believe me, the relief I feel is huge!
I saw many people making end-of-year posts about their experiences and lessons learned in 2025, but after writing my last paper in the middle of December, all I wanted to do was rest. I could finally sleep when I wanted to without the weight of a major exam looming over my head, and I cherish that feeling. Lots happened in law school. Lots happened in 2025. I really have so much to write, but I feel that I may not be able to convey it all because some experiences cannot be adequately described with words. But as usual, I’ll try my best.
2025 started off fine, until I lost someone very special. A very dear uncle who can never be replaced. It was a painful shock because he was so full of life. He was the coolest and best uncle ever. He was a man like no other. An adult with the heart of a child. He cared, He loved, and he was not afraid to show it. I will never forget you, Uncle Izi, and I’m sorry for the times I didn’t show you how much you truly mean to me.
Before long, I was admitted into the Nigerian Law School and had to pack my bags and travel to Bayelsa state where I was posted. This of course, was a whole new experience for me, as I was travelling to a place I’d never been and was going to live apart from my family for the first time for an extended period of time. It was new but it wasn’t scary. I embraced it gladly, seeing it as an escape from my then reality.
Like most people who were posted to Yenagoa Campus, Agudama, in Bayelsa state, it was not my choice and if I could help it, I would have preferred to be posted elsewhere. Yet in hindsight, I can now say that it truly worked out for my good and I am sincerely glad that I got the opportunity to experience living in Bayelsa, because I am very sure that nothing else would have taken me there EVER. In those rapid 8 months, I got to experience a different kind of life.
First, the roads are not as busy as those in Lagos. I never once in all my time there witnessed traffic of any kind. The state is not as congested as Lagos, though it’s quite small. Fewer people, less pollution. It was peacefully quiet. I had a lot of time to think — well, when I wasn’t thinking of bar finals. I got to eat fufu for the first time in my life in Bayelsa, and I loved it! After I tried fufu that first time, I barely ate any other swallow. I really don’t care who disagrees, fufu is bae.😌 2025 was the year I discovered fisherman soup, and I loved it! But fisherman soup with fufu?!

Bayelsans have an interesting way of speaking eh…
The typical Bayelsan adds ‘eyyy’ at the end of every sentence, and it sounds quite laid-back and nice-their own unique slang.
The cons though, I did not enjoy their water one bit. In fact, it was quite stressful having to treat my skin every now and then, as it was reacting to their coke-coloured water. Not fun at all.
Law school was very capital-intensive. So, from the very moment I set foot on the campus, my spending began, and it did not stop until my last day in Bayelsa. In law school, you spend on EVERYTHING — food, water, basic provisions, every single thing.
I could say a whole lot about law school administration, but maybe I will hold off on that for another post. All I’ll say for now is that they put us through a lot of unnecessary stress, and they genuinely did not seem ready for us, even though law school has been admitting students in this country since 1963. It’s wild.
One good thing though is that we had good lecturers — special shoutout to Mr. Udemezue (aka Udemz), Mr. Ede, Dr. Mrs. Elendu and Ms. Ikimi, to mention but a few. But my absolute favourite was Udemz. If you’re a law student reading this and you’re fortunate enough to get posted to Yenagoa campus for law school, I’ll tell you right now, Udemz is a gem. Take everything he says seriously. There’s a reason students love him. He cares and really wants his students to succeed. I’ll say it again, take everything he says seriously. Pay special attention in class and try your very best to utilize the law school success tips he will give from time to time — believe me, he has a lot of advice to give. You will get tired of him, but you will still love him.
Even though time runs fast in law school, mostly because there is so much to do but so little time to do it, you’ll also have to contend with distractions. You need to have a very focused mind and stick to the goal that you must have already set for yourself before going to law school. Remind yourself of that goal every day. Find people who not only share the same goal, but also work towards it and stick to them like glue. You’ll meet all kinds of people with different personalities and characters in law school. They could be your seat partners, group members or roommates. LOL, I may just write a post or two about roommates. Stick around and see.

Before I went to law school, I got a lot of advice about how you must be very careful and prayerful when it comes to roommates because getting the wrong ones could be a major upset in your law school journey, and now that I have completed that journey, I could not agree more. Now, before I go off on a rant, I will just say that I’m not a perfect person. I have my flaws and shortcomings like everybody else. I most definitely was not a perfect roommate. Though I did try my best not to step on anyone’s toes or make anyone uncomfortable, but an important lesson I learnt in law school is that sometimes that is not enough. If you are unlucky to get the wrong person as a roommate, it’s not going to matter that you’re the nicest person on earth; some people will not hesitate to show off their bad character. I had two roommates in law school, one was my padi, the other was honestly not the best person to live with for a number of reasons, but I must confess that I learnt a lot about human psychology and behaviour from her. There are a number of girls I learned various lessons from while in law school, and I will share it all as time goes by. Each person I encountered taught me something about how the world learns to interact with you by the things you tolerate. It has a lot to do with how you present yourself to the world.
I find it interesting that in any group I find myself, as I journey along, it’s really just a microcosm for real life. Out there, you will meet people who are perfectly okay taking advantage of you or stepping on you if you give them half a chance, people who genuinely care about you, people who couldn’t care less, people who are experts at manipulating others and have some weird confidence that nobody sees through their deceptive demeanor, people who will make you hopeful and excited about life, people you can learn good things from and people you can’t wait to get away from. Just name it, I met all kinds of people while in law school. And I might not share all of these experiences at once, but I’ll try my best to do so as time goes by.
As I said, I have a whole lot to say, but since I didn’t intend for this post to be lengthy, I guess I’ll stop here for now. In other news, I’m currently reading a book, and it’s called “Master of Me” by Keke Palmer. So, you know what that means! Book Review Coming Up! Watch this space;
https://veesreviews.wordpress.com/
It’ll be my first book review of 2026, and I really hope I can be consistent. This year, there’s so much I want to be consistent at. Sigh. Well, let’s see how that goes.
Until I grace your screens with my next post, take good care of you. Bye!
