CHAPTER 1: Decide to Grow Escape Comfort and Answer God Calling
Proverbs 3:6 — “In all your ways acknowledge God, and He will make your paths straight.”
CHAPTER 1: Decide to Grow Escape Comfort and Answer God Calling
Scripture Reference
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (NIV) Romans 12:2
Stagnation is not what God calls us to. He challenges us to change. But partnership is necessary for transformation. You have to start aiming for who you could be instead of holding onto who you were.
For you
You created the prison where you have been residing.
Not with walls or bars, but with justifications like “I’m not ready yet,” “maybe next year.” You’ve covered yourself with the cozy blanket of remaining the same person you were the day before, and you’ve dubbed it safety. The fact that comfort is the gradual death of potential, however, will either insult you or set you free.

An image of a person scrolls through other people’s success tales. It’s half motivation, half jealousy. “I’m waiting for the right time, the right capital, and the right connections,” he assures himself
The Mystery Revealed
I’ll tell you about Misty. He is twenty-six years old, resides in Golf City, works in a job he doesn’t enjoy, and hopes to “start someday.” He feels that old aching every night as he sits in his room and scrolls through other people’s success tales. It’s half motivation, half jealousy. “I’m waiting for the right time, the right capital, and the right connections,” he assures himself.
The actual delay, though? He’s waiting for an unattainable version of himself. Because only on the opposite side of action does that version of Misty — the self-assured, prepared, brave Misty — exist.
Most people don’t learn this fact early enough: the choices you make today shape the person you wish to be.
“Trotro no b3k) fie,” which means “the trotro will go home,” is a proverb in Tema. Dreaming about your goal won’t get you anywhere, no matter how long you wait at the bus stop. You must go forward. You must make a decision.
Take a moment to realize that every day you spend in comfort is a day you spend the same. Furthermore, “same” is only another term for stuck.
At first, growth doesn’t feel like growth. It is uncomfortable. When your body cries out for sleep, it’s like waking up an hour earlier. It’s similar to speaking up in public when your throat is constricted. It’s similar to owning up to your ignorance and still learning something.
There is a lock on the prison of comfort, but no key. so a key is not required. The door was never secured. You simply grew accustomed to sitting in the corner.
Psychology Insight
The “comfort zone bias” is the term psychologists use to describe our brain’s innate preference for predictability over possibility. Instead of pushing you, your mind is structured to protect you. Even if the familiar makes you unhappy, it will always go with the familiar.
The trick is that each time you choose suffering, you increase your potential for development. Your brain is actually rewired to handle more. This is neuroscience, not motivation.
Wisdom Lesson
“Stay here, it’s safe,” comfort murmurs. “Go now, it’s time,” growth yells.
The whisper is what most people spend their twenties listening to. Don’t be like most folks.
Key Takeaway
You don’t instantly lose your potential. When you decide to remain the same, it dies in a thousand cozy mornings.
Journal Prompt
Write this down: “What am I choosing to stay comfortable with that I know is keeping me small?” Be brutally honest. Name it.
Curiosity Trigger
But comfort isn’t your only enemy. There’s something deeper holding you back — a fear you haven’t even named yet. In the next chapter, we’ll expose it.
