Ok family…
I was sitting here actually getting some long overdue relaxation done chilling with my amazing wife on her birthday, and honestly if you need more proof that we live and breathe fighting fascism, we talked about all of the bullshit going on and some of the small wins that have been going on from the GOOD side.
Happy birthday to the woman who spends her day off diagnosing the psychology of a dying empire with me. That’s the love of my life right there.
But the common theme with us today was mindset. More specifically, the wtf is going on in the minds of these MAGATs mindset.
And it started with one of the wins.
Trump lost another one in court. He’s been trying his damnedest to weaponize the postal service to fuck with the mail before the midterms, and a judge just told him no. Then a second judge told him no again. Let me back up and make this plain, because the details matter and they are counting on you not knowing the details.
Back on the last day of March, Trump signed an executive order with one of those Orwellian names they love — “Ensuring Citizen Verification and Integrity in Federal Elections.” Sounds patriotic. Read the fine print and it’s something else entirely. The order tells the U.S. Postal Service — an independent agency that Congress set up, not the president’s personal errand boy — to build a federal list of “approved” mail voters and refuse to deliver ballots to anybody who isn’t on it.
Sit with that for a second.
A ballot lands at the post office, and a federal list decides whether it moves.
…deep sigh.
And his own Postmaster General, David Steiner, went and sat in front of lawmakers and said the quiet part out loud:
Any state that won’t hand its voter rolls over to the federal government, the Postal Service just won’t deliver those ballots.
Just like that. You didn’t turn your list over to Washington? Grandma’s absentee ballot sits in a bin and dies there.
Then the courts got involved.
Late in June, a federal judge in Boston named Indira Talwani blocked the heart of the order for the two dozen states and DC that sued. She didn’t mince it, either. She wrote that no law Congress ever passed hands USPS the authority to control mail-in voting, and that the Constitution doesn’t grant the president any specific powers over elections. Thirty-seven pages of sit down.
And then it got better. On the first of July, a second judge — Emmet Sullivan over in DC, a Clinton appointee — blocked the whole USPS scheme nationwide. His reasoning? Those postal rules would break a settlement USPS already signed with the NAACP back in 2021, where the agency promised to prioritize the timely delivery of election mail all the way through 2028. Translation: you already gave your word to deliver these ballots. You don’t get to take it back because Trump asked you to.
That’s two judges. Two rulings. Eight days apart. One message.
The president does not run your mailbox.
Oh, and the receipt that ties the whole bow on it? Trump himself voted by mail. In Florida. In March. The same man screaming that mail-in voting is fraud cast his own vote by mail and then tried to slam the door shut behind him. His stated reason for all of this was stopping non-citizens from voting — something every serious review has shown to be about as common as a unicorn sighting in your backyard.
Now why does this matter past the headline. Why should you care.
Because it’s a midterm year, and the mail is the mechanism. Mail ballots are how the military votes. How folks overseas vote. How the elderly vote, how the disabled vote, how the working man pulling a double who can’t stand in a four-hour line at noon on a Tuesday votes. Choke off the mail in the right states and you don’t have to win a single argument. You just have to make sure a few hundred thousand ballots never arrive.
That’s the game. It was never about fraud. It was about friction. Enough friction in the right zip codes and you bend an election without ever laying a finger on a voting machine.
Which brings me right back to the kitchen table. To the mindset.
Because here’s the thing neither one of us could make math out of…
What in the fuck is going on in the mind of a MAGAT government worker?
I’m looking at these people and I cannot compute it. What besides utter stupidity would keep them from seeing that they’re cheering for a man that is trying with all of his might to stop them from getting a paycheck?
It’s like these motherfuckers are in the twilight zone because TAXES PAY THEIR GODDAMN SALARIES and trump and all of his criminal billionaire Epstein class want to do nothing more than NOT PAY FUCKING TAXES!
My God in heaven help me understand!?
Somebody. Please. Because of course all logic is lost in this narrative.
Ok let me make it plain. These are people that are avoiding taxes at all costs and supporting politicians that have allowed over-taxation on the working class in tangent with inflation which has literally erased the middle class and made life too expensive for the majority of the working class.
Now sure there are some people doing fine — but that is the mindset they want you obsessed with, because it masks the truth. That being: all of the things they’re doing is causing pain for the rest of us.
I want to slap them on the back of the head and say “pay attention stupid!” — but I’m not confident even THAT would matter.
And here’s the part I say as somebody who studies this for a living, because it’s not really stupidity in the clinical sense. It just costs exactly as much as stupidity would.
People will vote against their own paycheck every single time if you convince them the paycheck was never the point.
Trump didn’t sell these folks a policy. He sold them an identity. And once a man builds his whole self-image around a team, admitting the team is robbing him blind feels like a little death. So he doesn’t admit it. He rationalizes. He reaches for anybody but the billionaire whose hand is literally in his pocket — the immigrant, the “coastal elite,” the trans kid, the professor, you. Anybody but the man cashing the check.
That’s the trick. Make the mark defend the con as a matter of pride, and he’ll guard your hand in his pocket like it’s his own wallet.
It looks exactly like stupidity from the outside. It just goes by a nicer name on the inside. Identity defense. And it will empty your bank account with a smile on your face.
Now don’t spike the ball too early, family. I need you to hold onto something.
A court order on paper and a court order enforced are two VERY different animals.
You really think a red-state Secretary of State who’s spent two years doing everything Trump asked is going to read Judge Sullivan’s ruling, dab his forehead, and go “well shucks, guess I’ll deliver every ballot on time”? These motherfuckers already showed you who they are. A ruling doesn’t change a heart that was never in it to begin with. They’ll comply on paper and sandbag in practice — slow-walk a mail facility here, “lose” a batch there, put the wrong supervisor on the wrong shift at the wrong time, and shrug real innocent when the numbers come up short.
Defiance doesn’t always kick the door in. Sometimes it just forgets to unlock it.
And let’s talk about the freelancers. The self-appointed patriots.
Because I promise you this. If some MAGAT postal worker, or some parking-lot vigilante with a grievance and a truck, decides to “help” by making sure a few thousand ballots from the wrong neighborhood never see a mail bin — this administration is not going to prosecute him.
They’re going to look the other way at best, and pin a medal on him at worst.
This is a government that pardoned January 6 traitors. This is a government that treats lawbreaking as loyalty the second it’s pointed in the right direction. The signal to every agitator out there is already sent, already received: interfere, and we’ve got your back.
That’s how you get interference with no paper trail. You don’t have to order the crime. You just make crystal clear it will never, ever be punished — and plenty of true believers will volunteer for the rest.
So why am I telling you all this on my wife’s birthday instead of just letting you enjoy the win?
Because a ruling this administration fully intends to ignore is not a finish line. It’s a permission slip. For us.
When a government has decided the courts are a polite suggestion — and this one has, over and over — then the courts alone are not going to save the vote. The judge signs the order. Somebody still has to make him mean it.
That’s why dissension matters. Not the tantrum kind. The maintenance kind.
Dissension is the postal worker who does his job right and opens his mouth when he watches somebody doing it wrong. It’s the poll watcher who won’t blink. It’s the neighbor who drives grandma’s ballot to the drop box herself instead of trusting it to a bin. It’s the loud, documented, relentless refusal to let a stolen thing pass by quietly in the night.
A paper ruling only stays more than paper if people are willing to be the enforcement the government refuses to be.
So to the government worker STILL wearing the red hat.
I’m talking to you now...
Your salary IS A TAX. Your pension IS A TAX. The road you drive to work on IS A TAX. The clerk who processes your benefits, the inspector who keeps your building from collapsing on your head, the check that clears every two weeks — a tax, a tax, a tax. And the man you’re out here defending would burn every last dollar of it before he’d pay a dime of his own.
Pay attention, stupid.
They are counting on your silence. They are counting on your loyalty. They are counting on you being too proud to ever admit you got played.
Don’t give them all three.
