The Park Near My House

Every day we follow the same routes: to school, to work, to the store. The streets are familiar and quiet, and we walk along them out of habit, without even looking at them anymore. I know where they begin and where they end, but today I decided to take a slight detour.

I decided to walk through the park near my house. There’s nothing spectacular about it — a few paths winding in a circle, benches scattered here and there, and a small pond in the center, so small that it would be instantly covered by a migratory bird that stopped here for a moment.

I walked among the trees and breathed in the fresh scent of flowers and grass, mingled with the subtle fragrance of damp earth. Nature seemed to slip through the city’s concrete, and I lost myself in its tranquility.

I reached the lake and sat down on a bench, watching the sunlight dance on the water. Everything seemed to slow down: the laughter of a child running with a ball, a dog’s bark, the quiet conversations of people on the paths. A woman was feeding the ducks and talking to them as if they were old friends. Every gesture, every smile, seemed to tell a story.

I caught myself smile. As I looked at all of this, I realized how rarely we truly stop to notice life’s little joys. An ordinary day can turn into a moment of magic if we choose to focus our attention there.

I always wonder why we go through our routine days so blindly. Perhaps because we’re in a hurry, or because of the weight of worries that hold us back like an invisible chain. We always find reasons not to look around, to complain that we don’t have time to truly live and that everything is monotonous.

And yet, every path we take each day is like an automatic program — we follow it like robots, performing basic functions. Why not stop for just a second and ask ourselves:

What did I do differently today? How did I change yesterday’s routine?

Maybe everything is simpler than it seems. A new path. A different perspective on reality and time. Not to escape, not to run away, but to observe the beauty around us: the flowers by the roadside, the leaf swaying in the wind, a smile exchanged with a stranger we meet every day without saying a word. That’s how everything changes. Just as a small park amid the concrete brings life and color, so too can our attention transform routine into a vivid experience.

After sitting on the bench a little longer, I decided to leave the park. The walk home seemed the same — cold and familiar — but now everything was different. I felt, looked, and listened with new eyes. When I left the park, I took its tranquility with me. And, perhaps, a part of the beauty that exists every day, which we miss if we don’t stop to truly look.
