Never Who I Think I Am

My spirit so young, me so old

The mind says thirty, the face says seventy. The soul loves to dance, the body needs a nap. My old heart still in love, the boy in me loves to flirt. Still happy in a gym, but now in the backroom with old men. Ran marathons in my youth, now fastest man to the bathroom. Wild man hair riding my Harley, now gray whisps in the wind. Running still makes me smile, but my dog whimpers in shame. Bed at nine now, the same time I used to leave for the bars. Tight shirts, sleek pants gone, now baggy jeans are me. Thought I used to be somebody, now the invisible man. Still have my skateboard, my doctor says never again. Oh, did I love the dark rum, now white wine please. Anyone seen my glasses, try the top of your head. Want to mess around my love, yes, noon Friday.

I am who I am, but never who I think I am. My spirit so young, me so damn old.
